Well, at least this is a good way to know tampering wasn’t involved too much here.

7.5 hour drive, or 1.5 hour flight... so considerably closer. Plus, he will be within a short drive to home while on the road at least 15-20 games or more than 25% of the season.
Compared to Calgary, this will allow him to see family a lot more often and be less of a burden on them for traveling. Huge difference. It's probably better this way as they get some space, while still being able to visit more.

If the offers weren't there, why not circle back to the Flames. This is all absolutely ridiculous.

Nope. I think this is a clear vindication of Treliving if nothing else.
Treliving offered him more money to play on a better team in a place where he'd already been for several years.
He could have offered him the moon and for whatever reason Johnny wasnt interested.
The 'Family' line was BS. The Money was better, the team is better.
You cant reason people out of positions they didnt reason themselves in to.
If anything...all I see here is that Johnny was tired of working hard and took the path of least resistance. Nobody is going to care if he is unsuccessful in Ohio.
And its not even for the original reported offer.
The Flames reportedly offered $10.5x8.
Hell...Columbus reportedly offered $12x7.
Either someone massively screwed up or Johnny just took a retirement deal.

Less AAV, less term. For Columbus.
He didn’t want to be here. I wish he had asked for a trade.

Yeah it is, but not sure if those time savings are significant enough to offset an alleged $15 millions.

Dear god. Should have traded Johnny immediately following the Colorado series in 2019 instead of hanging on to false hope. This sucks.

it's definitely a surprising choice.
WOTS was that Calgary offered 10.5 per season to Johnny over 8 years...if true, this is quite a haircut.
Columbus is closer (and not international border), but its not playing in your hometown either...Family would still have to travel, albeit not as far, unless he has family in CBus
would love to hear what was the actual offer Calgary put forward.
