A quick search shows that you can book a six-hour flight for up to six passengers on a chartered Learjet for $30,000 US. (Smaller jets are not recommended for flights of that length.) That's one flight, one way. Doing that once a week would be $240,000 a month.

Here are the UFAs signing for more than $10.5
Panarin
Tavares
that is all

Forsberg has concussion issues and has missed a full 82 games the last Five years.
Johnny has missed two.
Stone plays in a city with no state tax - his $9.5M in Vegas is $10.5M in Calgary.
So we offer Johnny $9.5M in Tampa/Vegas Money, to play in Canada.
Seems like a pretty easy thing to refuse

You can make a pretty strong argument that Johnny at the time of contract negotiations is a better player than any of those players were when they negotiated their contracts. Certainly none of them have ever had a year like Johnny had this year.

Family babysitting won't exactly be convenient at the end of the day, since Philly dropped out and it sounds like NJ is low balling.
Maybe sticking with the best opportunity for immediate success (on the top line in hockey vs the weakest division) with your friends for more money wasn't the worst move.
Too late now.

Johnny scored less than a PPG in 2 out of the last 3 years. And $10.5 was the rumoured last offer.
We can play around all day but Johnny apparently wanted money that only 2 other UFAs have received. And neither of those contracts have proven to be valuable yet.

Gotta double that, as they don't fly the plane home for free. And double it again to make an actual return trip (unless maybe you're visiting for like 12 hours).

Who looks at one year in a contract negotiation? And Kucherov was better when he negotiated his. Arguably so was Barkov. Stone was in a better bargaining position strategically because Vegas couldn't make their trade without the deal. He named his price.

What was the rumored offer from NJ by the guy who called the Dougie Hamilton signing in NJ a day early?
7 x 9.2M AAV?
vs
7 x 12M AAV in Columbus
Leaving nearly 20 million on the table by taking that NJ deal.

So we didn’t offer the best AAV nor the best location to family and he’s stupid for not signing with us?
I realllllyyyyy want to know if his camp countered to Flames and what the offer was if we declined

Leaving hockey aside (and there is actually a strong argument that CBJ has a brighter future), why would it be wrong for him to take the middle option?
|
It wouldn’t.
When someone is offering you $12M when nobody else is offering you $11M, there needs to be a compelling reason to not take their money.
Like, maybe they’re owned by Dan Snyder.
Or they play in downtown Kabul.
But you wanna talk about no pressure… CBJ.

The offer does mean he takes or even considers it. I doubt he does unless there are no offers from East coast teams.

It was 7 x 10.2M AAV from NJ. I've got some screenshots of the Tweets in case someone needs evidence of tampering
Also, I'm curious if anyone here would be happy with John at 7 x 12M AAV?

I already counted the return trips. And you don't have to pay for the round trip for each one-way flight: that's the charter company's problem, finding other bookings so they don't get stuck with too many deadheads.

Babysitting? He is going to be signing a contract in the neighbourhood of $80 million and people think free babysitting is a consideration?
closer to family > far from family
That's it. Babysitting... come on now. Is that what people think having family close is all about?

No, he inspired Mr. and Mrs. Bettman to name their kid after the city so little Gary would have a clear target to live down to.
