Bigger loss than Gawdin, IMO. Philp is a really nice player to have. Hope he gets some games in with Chicago.

He will play some sporadic games, lose a bunch, then get shoved aside during the rebuild. At least he will get an NHL paycheck

There is no big loss in having a career minor leaguer signed away. I guarantee you that the fans in Colorado are not concerned about the loss of Dennis Gilbert or that the fans in San Jose don't care about losing Nicholas Meloche. Once players hit a certain age it is unlikely they are going to make the jump. Philp is 26. Not going to be an NHL player. He's a depth signing for the AHL.

I don't think anybody was considering this a big loss, but I don't understand your constant need to sanctimoniously pooh-pooh almost every player who has found success on the Flames' AHL team.

Yeah, but Gawdin wasn't a big loss at all. It's a 2 vs a 1.

Maybe don't start your first post with "Bigger loss..." if that's what you mean. We have very different measures of success. Success in the minors is measured by getting to the NHL. That's the purpose of the minor league system - to develop players that will play in the NHL. Maybe you're a fan of Willie Marshall or Fred Glover or Jody Gage, but most people have never heard of them and really don't care. I bet the fans of the Red Wings wished Gage had turned into half the scorer he was in the AHL though. They needed the help.

Holy crap guys Scorps comment didn’t imply this was some huge loss. Gawdin was part of the sentence and used as the comparison.

This nonsense feels so targeted sometimes.
