Loved Guds during his time here, but lest we all forget he pretty much sucked everywhere else prior to arriving. He was getting crapped on literally every team he was with. 4x4 a couple years ago would have been INSANE to pay him. Even now...crazy overpayment. But good for him and his family.

He owes Sutter 50% of that money.

Dude should be thankful for getting a chance to play under Sutter. Literally made him millions.
Good on him though. Seems like a decent guy.

More than a whiff of desperation to this move. Jarmo must be feeling the heat.

Knowing how things go with the Flames, even if the Flames finished dead last they would undoubtedly lose the draft lottery.

Can't blame him for taking that contract. That's a lot of money and term.

Would have kept him at 3yrs, $6 million. This is bonkers, glad we aren't the ones paying it. Good sign from the Flames management that we're out on this, given what happened yesterday, IMO.

Loved his play last season. Not a great contract. Good for him for cashing in though.

I hope he buys Darryl something really nice. Like a new combine harvester or something.

Wish him well, loved him here after being a naysayer when the signing was made and am glad he’s able to cash in, but also glad the Flames aren’t the one on the other end of that contract.

Wow. Kind of a Sarich contract, difference being Sarich was a consistent performer before signing his Flames deal.

Maybe more like the Engelland contract.

Playing for Sutter gets you paid!

I hope Zads and Guds and everyone else (even Johnny) are grateful for that even though we suffer for their losses.

I was pleasantly surprised with Gudbranson... he was great in the role that he played.

Was hoping he would resign, but can't blame him for signing that contract with Columbus.

Good Luck to the guy!

$4/year seems crazy!
I loved him, but I don't know if I would want him playing top 4 minutes, but if he's getting $4/year, that's not on the third pair

This feels like a *IKEA start the car* gif moment for Gudbranson.

I said it when Calgary signed him that he isn't as bad as his rep is. He's just an old school, stay-at-home D who were valued a ton before the analytics era but since have almost disappeared from the scene. The only place where he truly sucked was in Vancouver, he was fine in Pittsburgh and Anaheim (and Florida).

But yeah this contract is a big one for him, a million too high and a year too long. Pretty much standard UFA overpayment.
