It's not blaming her, it's pointing out that he didn't exemplify the fortitude to put his hockey career interests above the interests of those around him.
Letting family decide the direction of your career isn't the actions of a strong man. And maybe Gaudreau just isn't that. Wherever he signed, he wasn't going to be kept away from his family at the end of the day. And its not like they've been suffering for the past 8 years.
|
Prioritizing the well-being of his family is pretty damn close to the definition of a man in my book. Screw him for not choosing the Flames, and I dearly wish immense failure on his career from here on out, but there is no damn way that anyone can question his priorities as a family man. Johnny Gaudreau seems like one hell of a good guy to me. He sucks at this time for sure, but he certainly deserves respect.

After reflecting on this, I do believe his intentions were honest and he hadn’t made up his mind

Real honesty isn't always politically correct. But at least I have the nuts to tell it like I see it.
Love his Flames career, but if you let others influence your career decisions, and most of your choices are made with others at the forefront then you're just not being true to yourself.
Sometimes it's a hard choice that not everybody is on board with, but end of the day you do what's right for you, and you make the rest (family life) work around it because its your job to be the leader as a man. That's my belief.

This is going to sound like I'm Don Cherry but to me it's time to consider not drafting Americans anymore. They all just leave as soon as they are 27. Tkachuk is not going to stay either.
Sounds a bit dramatic but I would focus on Western Canadian players who have roots here.
|
It's more an issue with NCAA players than American players IMO. They seem to be far more attached to their home areas than other players.
That's something all NHL GMs are aware of, and it's factored into draft rankings. Keep in mind we drafted Gaudreau in the 4th round, not the top 10.
Things could have worked out different for the Flames for sure, but picking players like Gaudrau in the 4th round is not where corrections need to be made. If we can continue to get franchise level players that play 8 seasons for the Flames with 4th round picks, I'm all for that.

I think its pretty obvious what he really wanted. He likes the city and the organization. From the outside looking in it just looks like he was too afraid to hurt anyones feelings until a decisio 100% had to be made.

You have no idea his decision process. You are coming off as a sore loser and its quite honestly immature and embarrassing.
Congrats on your nuts though

"The fortitude to put his hockey career interests above the interests of those around him," is code-sprak for "being a terrible husband, father, and all-around narcissistic, self indulgent person."
My God, this whole line of discussion is terrible.

Maybe he was torn until the end? What gives you a reason to not believe it.
Because Eric Francis called it two offseason ago?
Clown.

This stuff comes across as toxic and borderline incel-territory to me.

Fixed.
It's ironic he's doesn't think Gaudreau is a real man because of his decision. Should look in the mirror if you want to play that card.

The last thing I expected to see in this thread was posts questioning Gaudreau's 'manhood'. How ridiculous.

Yikes, some people really need to step away from the keyboard before letting their emotions get the best of them, and embarrass themselves even further with brutal posts.

Seriously we need to be better than this.

I’m sure there were other considerations, I just believe the wife has the strongest pull. This wouldn’t be the first time either, wives have played a huge part in where their husband’s play and do not play.
Like I said, I understand where Johnny’s wife is coming from. I probably would’ve done the same. Moving to a new city can be difficult and then on top of it all, she’s having a baby at the same time. She probably misses her friends and wants family around. It’s really a no brainer. So, I’m not necessarily trying to paint her in a bad light here, I’m actually trying to put myself in her shoes here and I get it.
But that doesn’t mean I have to like it and people may not like what I have to say, but it’s my personal opinion on this subject.

This is exactly what he did, sounds like someone is bitter about the decision that was made.
