Campbell, when dialed in was a really good goalie for the Leafs. If the oil defence doesn’t improve and they leave him out to dry his confidence drops and all bets are off. Very big tbd depending on what they can do on their back end.

Campbell has only ever been a starter for 1 season. 30 years old with 142 GP.
Seems like a guy who is average behind a good defence, and not so great if the team in front of him isn't playing well. A big part of why the Leafs lost this off-season.

As a Flames fan, I like it.
Per Cap Friendly they have under 5 mil in cap space, with McLeod, PullnRV and Yamaha moto left to sign (then they need 2 more forwards, 2 more defenceman). No problem!

People talking about all this Oiler cap space, and that they are improving the team. Last year:
Kane + Smith = $4.3M
This year:
Kane + Campbell = $10.1M
And the team is no better.
Now they need to sign or replace Yamamoto and Puljujarvi. Then we'll see what their cap space looks like.

One year longer than McDavid’s deal.

Has this been confirmed yet, or is Campbell hoping to go somewhere else?

And Keith will not be easy to replace. Who will fill his spot in the UFA market, and do they even have the cap space to fill it?

I just love that this is par for the course for the Oilers and goaltending and that they missed the bus on better options in the last year.
They're like us in the 2010s patching their G position with unproven 1A/Bs that will just leave you wanting more and playing the hot hand game perpetually.
Condolences to the Campbell family. No guarantees you won't be thrown under the bus there. They tend to do that.

This is likely a retirement contract for him given he got 5 years, so from a "maximize career earnings" point of view this is almost certainly the right move for him.

Zad in your top 3 on defense is a disaster id love to see.
Decent third pairing guy but they would undoubtedly over play and utilize him.

I dunno, I think Campbell is a big upgrade on Koskinen or Smith, but he is inconsistent, so that should make it an adventure over this contract's term. I think he's a serviceable starting goalie, but I don't see him as being a piece in their Stanley Cup puzzle. He's not the guy to take them on a long playoff run as far as I can see it.

Smith played well last season, look at his numbers...they will be lucky to get .915 from Cambell with that D

Campbell is inconsistent. Oilers' D is... bad.
What could go wrong?
