Campbell is a guy you try short term, but you don't hitch your wagon to for anything longer than 2 years.

You don't often get a guy to move from Toronto to Edmonton without overpaying him. The Oilers couldn't afford to overpay him in terms of annual salary, so they have to do it with term.

I have not been following Campbell closely but the Leafs may have given him permission to talk to other teams.

This is great. Campbell is about as consistent as Mike Smith. Rinse and repeat.

Seems like an okay signing in the short term which has great potential to age badly. Campbell doesn’t hav a huge track record as a starting goalie. I was thinking that this might come in closer to 6 million though. Glad it is not Kuemper going up there.

I think the money is a reflection of the rest of the league being lukewarm in him as a full time starter on a long term deal.

True. That and not too many teams looking for a starter. It is between them and Washington (and maybe Buffalo/Chicago, who likely want to tank)

Money trumps all for sure but he's also walking into a situation that he knows likely is going to end poorly for him. Just look how it's turned out for every ex-Oilers goaltender. Talbot is still playing but he had to rebuild his brand after leaving Edmonton.
