I've often wondered about this picture. Did they have let's go written on the big screen and he didn't understand what it was until somebody spoke it so he knew?

beside the game 7 fluke goal, johnny didn't impress me and didn't do much in round 2. For 9mil/year, i want a player who can elevate and be ready game 1..if the stanley cup playoffs can't motivate you nothing will.

Tbh if Johnny was as physically gifted as McDavid with his current IQ that’s a scary, scary player

This time last year he was waiting for it to play out and leave Calgary as he is now. Got married and think about family. His agent fully aware and probably the Flames too which way it was going, after missing the playoffs. So, the Flames as a result back away from pushing, and agree not to talk during the year, but making it clear they want him and will match dollars that anyone offers in July 2022.
But then fall hits and:
A career year and a coach that pushed him and got him in shape to have a career year. A decent playoffs, key penalty shot goal and an iconic but now semisweet OT Game 7 winner and just magical on the ice with his linemates.
But all sorts of other things that would factor into a life and 7 year decision….seeing his buddy Monahan hurt and maybe never the same going forward, and probably chats with Tkachuk about his future, puts hockey and life things here into perspective. All this while putting up career numbers and the team rolling. Also trying to start a family and pressures from that side of the family, subtly or not.
So a lot of things to consider. Fans treat him and the team like rockstars. Organization bending over backwards for him and protecting him like all Flames players, from the media garbage seen up north.
Countered by a crappy facility 15 years past it’s usefulness with no line of sight for a new facility. And his child will be almost 8 by the time his contract is here, his parents almost a decade older too, a 4.5h plane ride away.
Again, I think in his perfect world, play 2 or 3 more years here with this Sutter window, then 5 out east to be at home. But that’s foolish to think it plays out like that.
When he left here garbage bag day I would say he thought 70/30 he’d be back. But a few weeks at home it went to 50/50. As teams started to emerge that made indirect proposals in the past weeks, it probably went both ways because he would have to deal with growing pains and struggling teams and different coaches fro what he was used to here, where he was comfortable with the on ice situation here and liked the team and it’s chances.
In the end, since he had to make a call now about his next 1/5 of his life future and not in 2 or 3 years, and there is a so so hockey situation for a team stepping up, but a perfect life situation, so he makes the choice to spend the next 7 years somewhere else, for family, and to leave $5-10 million on the table, for that family, while abandoning a chance at a legacy here.

It's not like the Pacific is any good...100 points is hard. Basically have to stay consistent and no injuries.

You know - I started off being pretty angry at this situation. Still pretty angry with Treliving.
However, this has finally hit me. At times, I have wanted to trade Gaudreau but he is now actually gone. Outside of playing against the Flames, I wonder if he even ever comes back to Calgary to visit... he will now be able to go home and forget Alberta even exists.

Remember when they fired Feaster because he got underwhelming returns for Iggy and Bouwmeester?
And for not knowing the rules and nearly gift wrapping O’Reilly to Columbus and the 6th pick to the Avalanche?
At least Feaster drafted Gaudreau. Drafted Monahan. Signed Hudler. Got 1sts for both Iginla and Bouwmeester.
Treliving has let Brodie, Gio and now Gaudreau walk out the door for nothing.
There is every indication he’ll make the same mistake with Tkachuk, and zero reason to allow him the opportunity to try.
It is quite possible he could lose every one of Gio, Brodie, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Lindholm and Hanifin to leave as UFAs for not a single asset.
In the hands of the CP brain trust, never mind any other GM in the league, that collection of players is worth at minimum five 1st round picks and two 2nds, plus filler.
In Try-Hard’s hands, they’re worth nothing.
####ing embarrassing. What a dark day for this franchise.

yeah Gaudreau has way more hockey IQ than McDavid. McDavid has all the tools, but Johnny is forced to overcome his lack of size. he has to do it with his head, probably why I liked him so much.

I know you are a super duper Flames #1 Cheerleader all time poster, but the man hasn't even been an ex-flame for 1 day yet.
Did you not watch his entire career? He is not a normal player.

I thought I was a diehard, but a lot of folks legitimately acting like they just got dumped.
Life goes on, and the team and my fandom will be just fine.

and Oil Shark Fan thought I was referring to his regular IQ....
which in that case Gaudreau blows Mcdingus out of the water even more. One went to Boston College, the other probably got others to take his Math 30 and English 30 tests for him when he was on online highschooling in the OHL...... lol

Oh god, you are super duper Gaudreau cheerleader #1
I never said he wasn't a great player...100 points is hard in this league. He has done it one time in how many years? I think it's fair to assume it might not be easy to do it again
