Truculent!

He's a good player.
He'll never hit 100 points again. Especially if he goes to the Devil's or NYI.
I believe he will regret leaving Calgary in the long run.

I think some people really underestimate how much playing with Tkachuk benefited him as well. A lot of people talk like making the other players on the line better was a one-way street.
He could find that on another team, but it isn't a guarantee.

Especially when a top-2 pick is on the table. I don’t care if it’s a weak draft - if we’d made that deal, Shane Wright would be at our development camp this week.
Now, we have no Gaudreau. We’re about to watch Tkachuk accept his qualifying offer and go to to UFA, because that’s what this team does.
We certainly will never be offered a top-2 pick for him again.
And we haven’t even gotten to the most valuable piece on this roster, Lindholm.
What could a 27 year old Selke-nominated 40G centre under contract for two full seasons at $4.8M fetch?
We’ll never know, because we’re the Calgary Flames, and our GM is a simp.
|
You have no idea if the Flames were offered #2 overall

I think the bigger bullet to dodge is Tkachuk.
That skating will age like warm milk as he gets older.

Except the non long term sign, if that’s what happens, is the info you need that prevents this from being rinse repeat. It’s a completely different scenario.
You worst case scenario isn’t an impossible outcome, but it’s highly unlikely and it’s completely ridiculous to be worrying about that at this juncture.
Worrying that Chuky will also want out at this point, totally reasonable. Worrying we’ll lose him for nothing is a waste at the moment regardless who the GM is.

Gaudreau should have informed the team of his intentions at the end of the season.
Everyone would have understood.
The way this has played out has set the team back years.
He owed the team and the city better than that.

Yeah, but Tkachuk will get a crappy return if he takes a one year deal. So may as well blow it up which the Flames won't do and will end up in the 5-15 pick range again.

My guess is Gaudreau wanted to stay and wife wanted to go home. I don't think he knew what he was doing at the end of the season.

Would you guys prefer if they dealt Lindholm now?
Realistically hes probably an elite level 2C on a cup team who put up 1C numbers because Gaudreau went supernova
His value would never be higher and it would massively kick off a rebuild, arguably quicken it by a year or more

Depends on Tkachuk. Flames won't rebuild unless forced.

I don’t agree Chuky only fetches spare parts in that scenario. Trade timing needs to be right, but assuming he plays up to abilities he’s a very valuable asset, there would be demand.

If Tkachuk indicates he wants to leave too then I’d sell.
Lindholm, Tanev, Coleman, Tkachuk, Markstrom, Backlund
I’d sell high on all of them as they all would have decent value right now.

Doubtful. I think he does have another 100 point season or two in him and he won't regret leaving. I'm happy for him and it kind of sucks, but I would have preferred a real coach the whole time he was here. That said, it truly felt like we wouldn't win it all with him being the guy. I could see him winning a cup playing second or third fiddle someday but that will have to be either late in his new contract or maybe a chase a cup kind of couple years that never seem to pan out.
