He wouldn’t play him till the last second. That’s my point.
It’s not so much why Johnny didn’t sign , it’s how he did it. It’s a big #### you to Treliving.

The Tkachuk 3-year bridge has to be what does him in, which was only necessary because of his bad cap management.
It was terrible and it's turned into a disaster.

I truly believe that a significant majority of the current NHL GM’s would have had similar or better success with the situation Treliving inherited. Feaster probably bumbles his way to the second round twice.
IMO with state of the team currently, little to no downside in replacing him.

It's really not.
It's entirely made up on your part.
I bet Johnny is gutted over this.

Johnny signing a tough but fair contract last time had absolutely zero bearing on tonight.

No, no need for that, there just happens to be 82 separate farm emergencies next season, Geoff Ward will be returning to cover for Sutter.

Well his peers from that summer, including Huberdeau, MacKinnon and Schiefele, are all still under contract...

Just imagine the revenge that MacKinnon is going to extract next year.

I’m not at all thrilled with how the JG camp played this (from what I can see) but I’m sure he feels bad about it.
Of course you know that feeling disappears for him tomorrow.

I'm sure everyone calling for Tre's head would have been completely satisfied with the paltry off-season return he would have gotten for Gaudreau as he went on to a 115pt (or similar) season.
I'm also sure nobody would have rued that alternate timeline where Johnny should have stayed and simply signed here for whatever AAV he ends up with...

I believe he'll be a year younger (than Gaudreau) too.
Hopefully it cripples Colorado so that they decline, and Makar comes back home in the distance future.

Topic of Calgary’s current GM: the short term team looks really bad, so go young and retool.
Tre needs to pivot and he should be on a short leash. No way he’s fired this off-season, but maybe they should consider by Christmas because it’s shaping up to be more mediocrity for awhile.

It was rumoured the Flames offered 8x8 last contract and he didn’t want to sign it. Johnny wanted to get to FA as early as possible.

I don't particularly blame Brad for the Johnny situation. I think Johnny strung the team along (his right). But I'm also not sure with all the assets that have walked for nothing, that you can simply forgive that overall pattern. I don't know that I'd trust him for a rebuild. Partly I admit, I am a bit all over the road on this team right now.

I don't think Johnny strung the team along at all.
I think he was genuinely conflicted but in the end the pros outweighed the cons for going home.
