My wants to build out the Flames roster?
Pavel Zacha
Evgeny Malkin
Andre Burakovsky
Still think building better scoring depth replaces Johnnys output in the aggregate.
Need size with speed.

Not terrible moves, but I'd guess we're outbid for Malkin and don't think Zacha becomes available (RFA isn't he?). Bura I agree we're likely in the running for

Malkins ask from Pitt was allegedly 4x7m. I think that's manageable.

Andre Burakovsky is a guy that I always thought was pretty talented...
I mean no one is going to replace Johnny; gotta get an infusion of talent though and Burakovsky is a guy with some of that.
Bonus is that he is a Swede and one of Rasmus' best friends.

Malkin is the only guy that I want us to sign as opposed to rebuilding. Keeps the window open for a couple more years and if we don’t win we rebuild then

This team was already not very appealing to high profile free agents, and we just lost the straw that stirs the drink.....and who knows who else will want out now too.
I wouldn't get my hopes too high for any big names picking the Flames in the next few days.

I didn't wade into this before because of all the rumours. It is very disappointing to lose such an exciting player, but Tree could not force him to sign. He took a risk that John wanted to continue to grow and succeed as a team.
I have no issue with John going east. What is upsetting is that this decision to move is not new - he has wanted to be "home" - for quite a while. Hanging the Flames out to dry until literally the last minute shows a remarkable lack of respect on his part. Tree's only mistake was in believing John wanted to come back here.
Deep breath and move on.
