Nah, since Day 1 there was the risk he was not staying here.
Teams out east knew that for the last couple years.
It was be near family and play east.
Stay here and be a life long Flame.
Money wasn't at play here. I do think it was a tough decision for him.

If it want about money then Johnny has known for a while. No chance he came up with this an hour before the 8th year was out the window. I have no problem with Johnny choosing family and moving back east. I do have a problem that he let this drag on when it didn’t have to.

The only way that happens is via tank/draft and the Flames probably wont do that.

Still legit if Tre can pull it off. At least try to get something back. All Johnny would do is name his 3 - 4 teams and Tre broadcasts within the remain time left. Worse comes to worst - it's a Mexican standoff between the teams. Best possible outcome is the Flames get at least a first round pick.

What? Posters on here have been calling this inevitability for years.
In fairness to Treliving, he's not a very good GM and didn't have a plan B.

You watch. Tkachuk will now become the schmarmiest, most condescending this is the way we do things.
He can go too. Seriously.

That wasn't even dripping in sarcasm. You could have surfed on it.

It’s funny, I always hear “the fans won’t accept a rebuild”. Now that we are firmly in ‘not serious contender’ territory, the only thing that would keep me engaged as a fan is a full on, tear it down to the studs rebuild.

What a scummy move. He knew all along, family decision or not. I don't buy for a second that he was considering signing here, he built up a price.

Not the best news today about Johnny. I was really hoping the team would be able to keep him and trade Tkachuck. I'm not sure what direction the team goes now...
I'm not sure how you can build this current group into a contender when they just lost arguably their most important player. Rebuilding seems like the logical choice, but I can't see management wanting to do that.
Who knows, tough time to be a Flames fan, going to take a little to digest this. Went from contender status to potentially rebuild mode.
I'm not thrilled with Johnny holding out until the last couple hours. Johnny said everything that made him seem like he wanted to stay and remain a Flame so its tough to blame Treliving here, had he traded him last offseason people would have been calling for his head after the season he just put up, but ultimately would have gotten an actual return instead of losing him for nothing. This can not happen with Tkachuck.

This is a management issue I think. Everything the flames have done in the last 15 years screams a mandate that playoffs is a requirement from ownership and that patience is not a trait anyone in the flames org has in spades.

Well Brad is as likely to trade the first rounder as keep it, so I don’t think Flames fans should be counting on a rebuild.
