Lol the Devils are just as useful idiots as the Flames ended up being. Gaudreau is going to the team he grew up dreaming of playing for, where his wife is from, where his dad works, the same team coincidentally clearing cap space.

I'm sure Gross and Johnny realise he may make less money without the 8th year but don't expect Gross will carry on with teams that way as they will be posturing with those teams just as they did the Flames.

More than likely they already know what the other teams are going to offer

Yeah I would not be shocked if they were leaking the Flames numbers to interested teams. "Hey this is what the Flames are offering. Can you match this? Can you free up any more cap space?".

You know you got played when the other guy leaves the table with his pocket full of your money. Gaudreau did not leave with anything extra by dragging out the negotiations until the last day.
Nobody got played here. The negotiation failed and a deal did not get done. It happens all the time in every kind of business, but usually not in front of a bunch of yahoos who think they could do better.

Are you enjoying your twisted pretzels.
I never thought i would ever say i my lifetime someone got out-smarted/played by the Gaudreau's from New Jersey but Brad did.
But lets pivot.....burn calories elsewhere..... after all it is a process.

If there was a deal to be had, I really think the initial offer of $9.5M was a big mistake. Even if you disagree, Gaudreau's market value when looking at comps and cap%, was definitely $10-11M+. Even if that is the floor, you are quoted as saying (cliché at this point) you were going to move heaven and earth. Treliving has even acknowledged the small market CA team/tax challenges, so I don't know what you don't initially aim for what you would hope to be near the bulls-eye.

Ah well can’t win em all. Smell ya later buddy. Sign Kadri and Trochek to big money deals and we’re right back in this.
Or everything unravels and we go back to the middle of the pack. We got 5 more years of Markstrom right? Set in net. We got Lindholm still, probably sign Mangiapane to a big deal, a healthy Monahan coming back, oh yeah we’re good.

“We’ve got a lot of really good players”
Nah. You really don’t. Especially if Mang and Tkachuk take a hard line on you, Tree.

Feels like something relative quickly has to happen with Tkachuk, if they wait, more teams will be getting their rosters settled with less ability to take on his salary for the year. Waiting until the season starts brings Tkachuk closer to free agency, risk of getting injured, risk of a poor start without Johnny.

If the second overall was available for chucky maybe they should have taken it. More poor GM decisions.

Don’t ever buy another named jersey. Maybe don’t ever buy another jersey. Don’t want to take the risk of a blank jersey leading to the team moving out.
