Nothing but the best to Johnny. One of the best Flames I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. Sucks for the Flames but I’ll still root for him wherever he goes. Just don’t be the ####ing Oilers.

Between the Oilers' star players being the darlings of the media and the Flames inability to hold onto theirs, it might be time to take a few years off being a fan.

Unlikely we'd have cap space to pursue UFAs for a long time if he signed though ...

Likely depends what the vibe is around Tkachuk...

If Tkachuk is going to be one-and-done after this season, see how much Malkin wants for 1 year (plus bonuses) and go for it. I know people are going to say just rebuild, which I could get onboard with, but I really doubt they will. In lieu of that, go after Malkin.
If things don't work out, you have one more TDL asset to trade next season. If Tkachuk signs a longer deal, then maybe offer a 2 or 3 year deal.

Realistically, the flames had two of the top 10 wingers in the league. Which is great, except makes no sense from a cap perspective (especially with both approaching UFA).
I realize Johnny is Johnny. But Tkachuk is younger. And with the money freed up from Johnny, they can now go after a bonafide #1 center. They don't go on trees, but Malkin is available. '
They might not be as good in the regular season, but they might be even better in the playoffs.

I suspect Tkachuk is signed long term in the next few days.

Burn it to the ground and rebuild. Please be smart here Flames and don't be delusional about the near-term future of this team.

If money wasn't the reason, he should tell Flames earlier.
Anyway, are we offering Malkin? Bring in him with Tarasenko.
Tkachuk traded to st louse for next years 1st, best prospect and Tarasenko.

Expected outcome for me, family has always seemed really important to Johnny, and being that far from family can be tough. As for dragging this on, it would have been nice to have known earlier, but likely a combo of an extremely tough decision and a bargaining tactic on the advise of his agent.
Big question is what do the Flames due with Tkachuk. They can not start the season without Tkachuk signed or traded. I'm hoping for a trade and rebuild, but it's been mentioned that rebuilds are not palatable for Murray Edwards.

And Button. Been here long enough, this team in 8 years with both of them together there has not been a huge improvement.

Has Dissentower admitted to being wrong yet and apologized for being a complete dink to anyone who even remotely thought Gaudreau would leave? Pretty embarrassing.

I suspect Tkachuk will choose not to re-sigh long term and will either be traded in the next 10 months, or leave in free agency next summer for nothing just like this.
This team should be rebuilding.
No anger towards Johnny at all. I love the choice he’s made (assuming he signs closer to home).
Anger towards Treliving for hiring Gulutzan, Peters, and Ward? Renewed. Wasted years of a truly elite player by pairing him with garbage coaches.

We need more posters like you! Johnny gave us his best this year and this is probably a very difficult decision for him. We just have to pick up the pieces and be smart about it. We will miss Johnny but he will still be am exciting player to watch! GFG

I’ll still support him, no matter where he goes, but the way this happened absolutely sucks. Pre-draft or post-playoffs would have been ideal. Wish the Flames had a few more days to get their ducks in a row with a decision.
Talking about where he goes, I hope if he leaves, he is able to go to his childhood team in the Flyers. (Selfishly, since they are my second team, though they are an absolute complete mess right now)
