No. But it could handcuff us when his production regresses. I have to specify again I’m not a Johnny hater. I’ve had my ups and downs like many on here. Last year was special. The question is what you believe he is going forward. For that when someone is in a contract year I’m generally skeptical. He’s been about a ppg player and I don’t think that’s worth $11M. And so I think with that as your top line expense it will cost you when he produces in the 85-90 point mark for the next 4-5 years. So if you do want to go to rebuild and want to hand off that contract, it’ll be tough to not pay to get rid of it when he’s a ppg player.
But as the cap increases, then so does the value of players. Within three years a PPG player will probably be worth $11.0 m. A contract like Gaudreau's extension is going to have a chain reaction, driving the prices of pending UFAs like MacKinnon through the roof.

That's why Johnny Gaudreau is currently locked in Gary Bettman's basement, bound, gagged, and with his hands wrapped up in stick tape so he can't sign anything. The league arranged for #13 to be UFA on the 13th, and nothing shall stop their evil master plan!

I feel like quiet is probably good at this point, I'd rather there be no chatter unless it's a contract being announced. Because chatter is generally either side leaking something to try to negotiate through the media.
We're in the End Game now.
