Tampering in the NHL is almost as big a joke as it is in the NBA.

I wouldn’t call it high level stuff. A few morning mimosas will sink a ship.

I thought Zadorov wasn't that interested in staying.

I bet he goes to Philly. Which, given how badly they will get bent over this summer to move out the players they need to get under the cap, will be a terrible hockey decision for him and almost certainly hurt his career legacy.

Probably mostly due to the self awareness that the Flames won't offer him (because they likely can't afford to) what he's hoping to get on his next deal.

Even if Johnny wanted to leave in 3-4 years when (if) Philly is starting to compete again, from a risk perspective you always take the longest term possible because these contracts are insured.

Ha, just goes to show that Johnny shouldn't be making long term career choices based on playing with his besties with tenuous holds on NHL careers. Dude should be focused on winning full stop.

Johnny will be 29.

I want the Flames to sign him, but it would be foolish to think there is no risk in giving a 29 year old LW a $11M contract for 8 years.

You do this to try to win in the next 3 seasons but after that it's not going to look great.
I get that but do we really and honestly think that with a weaker team overall (which it will be because JG will be taking a huge amount of cap) that we are going to be good enough to beat the Ave's and Vegas. Because we were not even close this year, we were run out of the arena by the oilers who were then hammered by the Ave's. Even if we went back with the exact same team we are not winning the cup.

General consensus from twitter is that’s a mega overpay lol. No one in the league appreciates what Gaudreau is.

A promise to Gaudreau we will keep Monny until the end of his contract.

Also we will name 2 parks and playgrounds after Johnny. Both not boring.

Then you look at the silver lining. A guy who prioritizes being close to mommy and daddy at age 28 over winning and his hockey legacy is not a guy you are winning with anyhow. I am not saying if that is the route he did choose that it is wrong, it is right for him but there is a long list of players who chose location over winning. Those guys retired with their hockey legacy being they put location first and winning and competing second. See Shane Doan for example. You don't win championships with guys like that. I don't think Johnny is like that though and I believe he was bring totally honest when he said he wants to be here, win here, and wants to stay here. I can't see a guy who seems as competitive as he is throwing his entire hockey legacy down the crapper just to be closer to mom and dad.

If the Flames lose Gaudreau there'll be no reason to buyout Monahan.

I considered noting that Colorado has only one more year of the sweet MacKinnon deal, but then noticed that at the end of next season, exactly when he needs a raise, the Avs are relieved of Erik Johnson’s 6 million cap hit
