I’m clinging to this as well. Have to think if we’re out we should know by now.

No one's clearing deck chairs for Johnny either. Of course NJ has a lot of landing room but the Phillys and Islanders of the world can't just air lift him in. It doesn't really seem like anyone expects to actually be able to sign him. Lots of reasons to think this gets done tomorrow.

If either team were to need to make cap space, is there anyone they’d move that we’d want?
Seems impossible for the Flyers.

I find it really hard to believe he'll land in Philly.
The three obvious contenders I see are New Jersey, Calgary, and the Islanders. Maybe Boston if they can figure out their cap, but there's a really small window here and they're reportedly about to commit some $$$ to bringing back Krejci.

Is this a joke? Injured March 7th...he had surgery there was no magic. Doughty may be poughty but he is a great player.
Kings would have won the first round with him IMO

All that tanking has really paid off for your beloved Oilers.

That he's going to test the market.

Islanders have the room now but Dobson will make a lot of money this year and Romanov will get a chunk. Varlamov makes the most sense to trade but they would need to get rid of more than that. Not a lot of shine on most of those contracts after last year.

It's kinda irrelevant for Malkin though because an 8 year deal is out of the question

Lou said at the draft he thinks keeping both goalies is key to the Islanders success. I don't see the Islanders handcuffing themselves with a Gaudreau deal.

To me it’s NJ, or Calgary.
I actually think Philly is Gaudreau’s preferred destination but their cap issues make it almost impossible unless he’s willing to wait while they try to move pieces.
But with Philly looking to be almost out of the picture I think that’s Calgary has a good shot. I still think this whole thing was just Gross using the time and UFA threat as his negotiating leverage to get JG13 the best deal once Philly didn’t seem to be able to offer big money.
My guess is still that some time between 1:00 MT and 7:00MT tomorrow that a deal for 8 years and between $84-$88M gets announced.

Somehow
I’ve thought that the Rangers could be in the mix too.
Don’t press me for why I feel that way.
It’s just that I do.

Anyone can talk #### about the Oilers, or any other franchise for that matter, so don't stop if you don't want to. But coming from fans of this franchise, trash talking other franchises feels a bit...hollow.
2 (or 3) series wins since 2004 is not anything to write home about. Honestly, unpopular opinion here, but I don't think we are THAT much better than the Oilers, now or historically.
I'll still cheer for this team though.
|
Sure but have you spent every day of the summer trolling an Oilers site?
The fact that Oiler fans act so high and mighty despite having the worst winning percentage in the NHL over the last couple decades and winning FOUR lotteries. The Oilers are still hilariously bad considering all the breaks they have been given.
Why are we even talking about the Oilers in this thread? Because some dip#### has nothing better to do than troll.

Late replying to this, sorry for derailing the derailment of the previously derailed thread…

That actually happened to the Flames before. Their first season in Calgary, they reached the third round and looked pretty impressive doing it… and then the wheels fell off, because several key players never wanted to leave Atlanta and had no desire to stay in Canada a moment longer than necessary. Cliff Fletcher didn't get fired. He did a hard pivot, traded everyone who wanted out, and after two poor years the rebuilt team took the 1984 Oilers to game 7.
Kid, this ain't our first rodeo. It ain't even our first doomsday.

I'm really not all that concerned...him and his agent want every penny, why would they settle before the deadline?
It's pretty much guaranteed the Flames will offer the most money. Should he leave it's 100% geography and nothing the Flames could do anyway.

True, but it still means Treliving must be fired, because that is the conclusion of every argument.
The earth is round, therefore Treliving must be fired.
2+2=4, therefore Treliving must be fired.
I stubbed my big toe, therefore Treliving must be fired.
This is how hockey fan logic works. I suspect every GM in the league has an anti-fan club saying the same sort of thing.
