I think Tkachuk is already exiting Calgary if Gaudreau leaves...so maybe not an issue?

It would be delicious for Oilers fans to beat the Flames in the playoffs, watch our best players leave (one for nothing) and the team pivot to give money to a cancerous player who had his value rebuilt by a short stay in Edmonton where he played a key part in eliminating us in the first place.

I can't see the Flames perusing Kane but apparently they did kick the tires on DeAngelo last year so who knows. If Gaudreau leaves in free agency and plan B also doesn't come to fruition, who knows what a desperate GM is capable of when his bosses expect playoff revenue and the team just lost their best player?

Treliving has mentioned character with respect to trades and signings a lot in the last few years (since he made the Neal error). I can’t see him wanting Kane.

Lucic’s move and Gaudreau signing are definitely linked. Hopefully it means that Gaudreau is close to re-signing. Bingo had mentioned this a week or so back, as well, I believe that Lucic might be potentially being moved.

I would rage quit if the Flame signed Kane. That would be it for me I think.
One thing I have been thinking about is Malkin. It's probably a long shot that he would go to Calgary and it would be expensive, but given his age and injury history, maybe he would do a one year deal for a premium. He is still a PPG player, just sucks that he has a beaten up body.
Let's face it, the Flames are not going to rebuild even if Johnny leaves. They will truck on with Tkachuk even if it is just a one year deal. Malkin would at least give them a chance and might be enough to get Tkachuk to extend longer. He would see that the team is dedicated to winning. They could then either move Lindholm to the wing or down to drive his own line with Toffoli or Mang. It would be a gamble, but if rebuilding isn't in the cards, I would rather take the gamble than be a bubble team with no hope of a high pick.

That would be the most FLAMES thing to do in this situation its disgusting.
Lose your best player for nothing.
Tkachuk goes RFA 1 year and leaves for nothing/less than we coulda got.
Sign Kadri to a jokingly inflated contract (8M+) long term only for him to come back down to earth and play at his 60pt pace.
My god, this speculation is getting worse and worse.
What a terrible spot to be in as a Flames fan right now.
