If trading Jerome didn't turn off fan interest, losing JG sure won't. No offence to Johnny but he isn't quite there yet.

Flames will be fine if they lose Johnny. It will suck, but they will probably do much better than many people here are expecting.

Name them. Who had offered that information back when the Flames had hired Peters? And how many NHL GMs interview a random selection of former players? How do you know who they talked to? How many players should you talk to in order to make sure the guy you are hiring isn't a racist?

5? 6? 10? 15? 30? 100?

They were supposed to speak with people that came out after the scandal before they came out after the scandal?

I just ran a background check on MegaErtz and I see nothing that would indicate a Flames fan.

I’m not trying to ruin anyone’s evening, but you guys need to drink a nice warm glass of reality. It has been painfully obvious to any outside observer that Gaudreau was leaving months ago. There’s a reason players this good very rarely make it to free agency, and that’s because franchises don’t let it happen. The Bennett trade, how we lost Giordano in the expansion draft, Gaudreau about to leave, and Tkachuk likely looking for a trade or being forced to stick around another year before he’s allowed to be free. One bad situation after another. A poster on here is saying that ownership is negotiating directly with Gaudreau? How does Treliving still have a job?

Yeah, the "No Traction" thing makes me skeptical. If they were honestly at a no-traction stage, I feel like we'd be hearing more about the Flames exploring an option b and planning past this.

There is zero chance Murray Edwards and Johnny Gaudreau are dealing directly. First, Gross would never allow an owner to talk directly to a client and second, that’s not how Edwards ever works.

First of all it's Jarome, and secondly these situations are not even remotely similar and I think you know that, so I won't bother explaining the difference.

The "no offence to Johnny he isn't quite there yet" is so comical considering where the two players were at these two times (Jarome getting traded when he was on the back of his career and the Flames weren't competing vs one of the most prolific players to hit UFA in years)

This is pretty bleak. If they lose Johnny and try to run it back and "contend" next year with an obviously depleted roster, it'll be hard for me to keep watching. I'll definitely go to a lot fewer games.

I'd rather see a new direction. Retool.

I think you over-estimate the average fan's investment in the players. In terms of fan interest (you said it would drop to zero), I think my point stands.

Games will still sell out, jerseys will still sell and Flames will not collapse.

Let's hope it doesn't happen.

But if he leaves, some new shiny toy will get you excited again (maybe one we have, maybe one BT goes out and gets). Not the same as JG, but I'm sure they'll give you something to be excited about.

Negotiations are always interesting especially when you have an agent like Gross. In saying that, the Flames need to up their offer into the 10.5/11.0 range if they want a chance. Hate to see us lose our franchise player because Murray and gang have a hard stop number wise. Johnny is far more valuable to the franchise especially when the range is within 1.5-2.0 million (if the rumours are correct). Just get it done.

Eh. This is Johnny Gaudreau we're talking about. If you can find another 100-point scorer, sure.

Top picks? Sure. Those are exciting.

Yup. Plus I know quite a few hardcore fans who don’t want to pay him what the rumours are stating, prefer Tkachuk to him and are prepared to see him go. I don’t agree with any of that, but it just goes to show that fan opinion isn’t a monolith.

If we give him $11M AAV I hope there is no NMC. I know we are over a barrel but fingers crossed. I'd like Flames to have flexibility when this window closes.
