Kadri’s career production is 57 point average over 82 games. He had a career year on a team where he was one of five (5) players over a point per game. He is on the wrong side of 30.

I think he would be a fine addition to the team, but not at the contract dollar amount and term that I believe he would seek.

I recall once a few years back, the Flames were rumoured to be targeting a UFA north of 30

Fortunately, Treliving is not Feaster. We are all glad the Flames didn’t win the Brad Richards sweepstakes. If I recall correctly, he was around Kadri’s age, the Flames offered a 9 year deal at 64 million (that’s in 2011, so in the 10 range today). He ended up being in the league for 5 seasons. 3 with NYR then one each in Chicago and Detroit

You almost never win UFA deals in general.
Now add cup winner and career year by almost double point production on a stacked Avs team.

I’d love Kadri on this team, wanted him before he vetoed the trade for Brodie.

But at age 31 he’s going to get a 5-7 year deal from someone at 8.5+ and that’s simply not worth it. 2 years from now that contract will cripple this franchise.

James Neal type move for whoever signs him. Maybe 1 more good year but he’s a career 57pt guy making 8.5? I’d rather spend the money on Mang tbh.

James Neal didn't have even a good month, let alone a full year. There is a huge difference, here, because even if he is substantially overpaid Kadri will still be a very effective and useful player for at least a few more seasons. Neal was junk.

Stay away from Kadri. If I'm targeting someone from the Avs it Nichushkin. Has size and skill and should come at a rate that works for the Flames.

If Johnny walks and the Flames signed Kadri and assuming they get Mangiapane and Tkachuk done they would still have a pretty solid top 9. Not a fan of it compared to if Johnny stayed and the Kadri contract would certainly hurt down the road but the roster on paper looks like a playoff team

Tkachuk-Kadri-Toffoli
Mangiapane-Lindholm-Coleman
Pelletier-Backlund-Dube

There's a nice selection of top 6 center options out there, more so than usual I think. Trocheck isn't a bad pick. Paul Statsny had that garbage day interview where he spoke unprompted about how well coached the Flames are. There's a few others like Copp and even Giroux or Malkin. For me I don't see the point in focusing on a guy who rejected a trade to us already.

The wheels have to fall off Stastny at some point, but he’d probably come pretty cheap. Only $3.75M last year. Maybe less this year.

Not really a top 6 option in my opinion I still have Bscklund and Lindholm ahead of him so maybe if they have to dump Monahan and Jarnkrok walks they can look at him for a cheap 3 spot

I think of him and Backlund as more of 2A and 2B with an emphasis on checking for Backlund and scoring for Stastny.

Let someone else overpay for him please. I like Kadri but if Johnny is gone I don’t want Brad to make any rash/dumb signings

Don't hate Kadri as a player - he would certainly improve our centre depth.

But there is no way I would give Kadri the contract he is likely to get. He will be massively overpaid for what he will bring going forward. For Backlund money, he'd be a great addition. For top line, or close to top line money, it would be a huge mistake.

I like this version of Khadijah as a player; however, he is likely going to hit a home run here and some team will have buyers remorse for 6 or so years.

Given that he passed on coming here once it would be hard to imagine him making a free choice to come here……additionally it is unlikely the flames could sign him to a contract that made sense as he will chase some silly money elsewhere

I don’t know. Maybe that guy is quite a bit better than the rest?

I don't like or see him as a Johnny replacement. As a cost controlled trade for Brodie sure, but not as a UFA coming off his best season ever. Someone else can overpay him

You can probably count on him for 45-50 points a year for the next 3 years, then he may drop off.
