That was only based on a post here, and not to discredit that poster but that's not enough to know it happened.

Treliving seemed pretty quick to shut LeBrun down and stated both sides are pretty interested in getting a deal. That after days of speculation that they hadn't even heard from Gaudreau's camp seems to suggest there's been a back and forth in negotiations now.

That question and response happens at 1:30.

Yeah, that’s what the (?) was insinuating. Although, I think Lebrun or somebody else also reported it.

I'd be so mad if I were a Flyers fan. There had been talk of Gaudreau being available and the Flyers potentially making themselves "available" to sign him via cap space for the last three years.
Many Flyers fans figured it was a forgone conclusion that management would be ready to make a pitch and likely land Johnny this offseason and yet here we are they simply didn't make themselves available for the best UFA to be available in years, one that grew up down the street and cheered for your team growing up.
That is a massive fail by that organization, whether they would have won the sweepstakes or not. You have to be in on that.

The Flames will need to move bodies to get Gaudreau signed and so will the Flyers. Neither team has made those moves yet. Philly seems hard pressed to move JVR allegedly but they can certainly move guys out like Konecny or Peovorov for picks/prospects or cheaper players. That team already missed the playoffs by 40pts though so are they that much better?

The difference is that the Flyers can't sign him to a $10 million+ contract given their current cap situation. The Flames can.
Both teams would need to make moves to fit that big of a contract under their cap, but the Flyers need to make those moves before signing the contract.
Assuming Cap Friendly's numbers are all accurate, the Flyers have less than $120,000 in cap space today. They can exceed the cap by 10% during the offseason, but that would only allow a maximum contract under $8.4 million AAV.
The Flames have nearly $27 million in cap space right now. Signing Johnny and the big-ticket RFAs will eat up that space quickly, so the cap-clearing moves will need to be made, but they do have the space today.

That's the plan.
It's crazy, signing Johnny moves us from a really bad & precarious spot to a really good one in a heartbeat.
The group is taking steps. They just need another crack or two at it with elite coaching.
Like another poster said, 2 division championships in the last two full seasons. There's something here, treliving just needs to crack the last couple digits on the combination lock.

Hearing the Flyers signing the De-Plorable was even better news to me then the Rasta info!

Maybe Tre has his eye on something else that is more appealing to him if Johnny signs. Dream is 1C.

Here's my question, what is the list of teams that actualy have an easy and legitimate shot at signing Gaudreau?

Realistically if he wants to be close to home.
One, New Jersey

Devils could offer Gaudreau $11M and only see a net increase of $2M on their cap from last year with Subban’s $9M coming off the books.
Seattle could, but they won’t.
The Red Wings could, but I don’t see him leaving Calgary for Detroit.
Realistically, it’s probably between Jersey and us.

The options outside of Calgary aren't great for Gaudreau. NJ and Philly are both bottom of the barrel teams and far from contending, it's not like him joining is going to push them over the top. Also Philadelphia is run by that dunce Fletcher and they have no direction at this point, things look really grim there right now.

Agree on Philly, they are a train wreck, but the Devils actually have a bright future. Even last year they would have been much better if they just had average goaltending.
Hughes, Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Holtz, Hamilton, Nemec, Gaudreau would be a pretty great core group to build around

NJ or Anaheim or LA or the Rangers 12M over 2 years.
That leaves Gaudreau with his best chance for a cup and a new contract with the cap possibly going up when he is 30 years old.

Gaudreau is not signing 2 years anywhere.

If Johnny was a true Flyers fan, he wouldn’t be too excited about the Devils.
If the report that they are negotiating is true, Treliving should be fired immediately if he lose Johnny for a few dollars
