How Long Have You Been A Member of CP? How'd You Join?
I thought this'd be a neat "get to know your fellow poster" thread.
How long have you been a member of Calgary Puck? And what made you join?
I've been here since January 2004, so pre-04 Run, but barely. I was posting on the Flames official message board on the official site since August of 2004 providing updates and analysis on Tim Ramholt, a recent Flames draft pick. He was playing for my hometown team at the time and I wanted to keep people in the loop.
I was getting no responses, but kept it up. I actually had someone post "dude you're on the wrong board" after one of my updates.
Then I got a PM from Reggie Dunlop (I think, I recall it actually being a real person's name). Telling me of this glorious land called "Calgary Puck" where my posts would actually be appreciated and commented on.
So I made a few posts on both boards, then jumped ship completely. I haven't been back to the official board since. IIRC they even shut it down for a period of time.
Now there are no Flames prospects on my Q team. Darryl draft Scott Brannon or something in this year's draft please, made me valuable again, haha.
So how'd you end up here?

Been here since the beginning of time. Well, since at least '99 anyway. I was introduced to the site by Greyshep. Reggie came up with my handle, been here ever since.

I joined when the forum at Calgaryflames.com went down. I never did go back there... It's a good forum here.

I was here in March of 04, I was a Sportsnet forum user for a bit, but that place is just ridiculous. It hasn't got any better over the last couple of years. But when I joined in 04, I was barely ever on, but more and more, I've needed to kill time at work and this site is just the place.

My story is similar to Martime Q-Scout's, I was on Hockeys Future in 1999 and the Flames sub-forum there was pretty well dead (unlike today). I posted a thread along the lines of "where is everybody" and FDW directed me to Calgarypuck, which was on the Rivals network back then.
I remember the first thread I ever started after lurking was in the summer of 2000 about why a Derek Morris holdout would be more damaging to the team than a Marc Savard holdout. Turns out it didn't matter, the team was destined for failure!

I think I joined in about 2001, I lurked around for a while before I actually joined any conversations. At the time this was more of a higher end complaint board because the Flames were terrible.
I found this board by complete fluke as I was looking for a completely useless stat and Google pointed me here.
For a long time I posted a lot more in the off topics board because so much was going on in the world at the time, including the dark days of Sept 11th.
For all of the differences of opinion, this is a great board, and a mindless distraction from other things.

I can never remember my join date, will have to look when this message gets posted. I stumbled across this site on a google search, trying to learn more about contract talks with Iginla and Button. I just lurked mostly for the first year or so, taking in the great game stories, and gradually took in more and more of the forums. I guess I am now still more of a super lurker. I read just about everything on here, and will have my little neutral square until the end of time. I am an addict, and a proud one.

I started lurking when I moved here to Calgary in Oct 03. I think I signed up a few months later when I had something to ask about buying a house in Calgary. Then the playoffs happened and yadda yadda yadda.

I joined in Dec '03. I lurked for a couple months before I acutally signed up. I was directed to this site by my friend in the RL Jiggy_12. Didn't post much at the begining and was here only once to twice a month during the lock out, but since about a year ago I've sitting in front of a computer for 40 hours a week I've been posting a lot more.

Post-lockout, pre-training camp. A guy on another board (MarchHare) mentioned that this was a hotbed of Flames info. I checked it out, posted, and pretty soon found I was spending more time here than on other sites.

Been here since 2001. IIRC I was member #99.
Anyone have any idea how many registered members we have now? I am sure there is an easy way of finding out but I am Lazy.
I think I heard about the site from Mark Stephen's talk show back in the day.

I started lurking quite a while before I joined. I also found the board via a google search and just kept coming back. Finally I decided to register and post. I think that I lurk more than I post now...but its definitely an addiction!

I signed up during college with a Flames fan CP member looking over my shoulder. I still remember the day, and the thread. LOL

1999 I think, on that tree board before rivals. Maybe it was 1998, I can't remember for sure. I was searching for a Flames board and I found a couple of them. Calpuck was the best and I stayed.

I found the rivals site around 1999 when I went off to University. I lurked forever and then finally signed up during the playoffs in 2004.

Around 1994 I started using alt.hockey.nhl.calgary-flames on the green screen 1 piece computers in Earth Sciences at the University of Calgary. At the time I figured I probably knew more about the Flames than anybody, and was probably the biggest fan on the planet. (I had been buying the media guides since around 1987, and would study them for hours). There were a number of really great posters that quickly showed me otherwise, and that there were a lot of hardcore knowledgeable fans out there (two names I recall were Alan Caldwell and Marc Chiampa). Lots of other great folks too whose names I can't recall. That eventually led to the board Fire on Ice website.
I stopped posting in around 1999, and just lurked till 2004, since I was looking at getting a job as a player agent after law school. Eventually I fell into a different field in the entertainment industry (video games), and started posting again after the Flames eliminated Vancouver in 04 (and lifted a 15 year old gorilla off my shoulders). I lost my log in after that, but rejoined in Aug 04 to talk about the lockout. This site was second to none during the lockout. Hardcore analysis, and none of the one liner drivebys by casual fans.
Prettymuch daily ever since.
Great site Bingo, thanks a bunch for it!

I joined post-lockout and pre-training camp as well. A RL friend and fellow poster 4x4 directed me here when the official board went down. I've been posting furiously ever since! Stupid working in front of a computer all day...
