Prove me wrong Flames, please!

I predict that Johnny sighs for $10.5 M and Flames win the cup next season, Chucky see what team can do and want to be able to participate a repeat, so he signs a $10.5 M next season as well.

I think JG is definitely re-signing. The fact(?) that there has been a counter offer pretty much seals it IMO. The Flames could have accepted the offer and JG would be locked up with the Flames right now. They wouldn’t have countered if he was going to FA.

I hate the Oilers, but regardless, I do not believe they should be getting a cap recapture credit. Why should they? Just because Blackhawks get dink doesn't mean Oilers should get the credits. And I don't care if NHLPA isn't going to be unhappy.
Oh, did I mention I hate the Oilers?

Honestly, I think if rumours about his asking price are true, there are going to be very few teams capable of offering him a competitive deal, while Calgary still has the upper hand in negotiations and has established a strong relationship with him and his family over the past 10 years.

FWIW there is speculation Philly are trying to move Provorov and his 6.75M

If Gaudreau really wants to go to Philly and there is nothing we can do about it, do we take Proverov or Konecky to help them shed salary?

I would think both of those players could be easily dealt to Seattle or Arizona or another team with cap space. Konecny had a rough year but at 25 with 3 years left at $5.5 I am sure a team would send an asset to give him a fresh start. The same with Provorov who is the same age and has 3 years at $6.75M back.
What would the Flames need to add to the 8 year sign and trade to get Konecny? Likely a solid pick, prospect, or both

The total cap available in the league could be reduced by max 0.15%. And that's only actually true if CHI exceeds the cap floor by less than 4M - which is very unlikely unless they trade one of Kane/Toews for the whole season.
A credit system would have had to been clearly introduced at the same time as the penalty was - it would have created an interesting ecosystem where teams coming out of rebuilds would have targetted these contracts while they could afford them to then expand their cap subsequently. But of course it would also require the players to actually retire and not LTIRetire like 95% of the other cases.

That ‘fact’ is debatable. Have you heard that from anybody else other than a poster that heard from his neighbor?

I agree IF a counter was made but we don't know for sure.
That was only based on a post here, and not to discredit that poster but that's not enough to know it happened.
