One thing I’m a little disappointed in is that Lucic or other salary hasn’t been moved out. Say what you want about the Oilers but they managed to get rid of two bad contracts this weekend. If Johnny does sign a deal with the Flames the can simply gets kicked down to being able to afford Tkachuk and Mangiapane.

Flames so far are waiting however if they do sign their two star players.
What will the cap situation look like?
Flames have lineup holes which have to be addressed, will they have any cap remaining...
Really tough off season,
Next week will be interesting

I'm pretty sure if that was the case the leak wouldn't have come from a CalgaryPuck poster.

This tweet that says they hope Johnny stays is liked by Johnny’s sister. Could mean nothing but hopefully it still points to Johnny wanting to get a deal done here.
This is how Gross plays it out. He will get Johnny closer to $11M than 9.5 I think but still hopeful it gets done.
It would be great to see Lucic get dealt to Anaheim or somewhere like that as it would be a good sign. If we see JVR or Konecny moved out then I think it is really time to worry

Lebrun put it in his article yesterday but that gives me more hope that Rasta was right all along and there is a counter which would make Treliving’s comments about a deal being able to get done true.
Interesting to note on Franks’s podcast he talked about how Pietrangelo was offered everything he wanted in the 11th hour by the Blues but they refused to budge on those parameters for months prior and he had decided he was ready to walk. I don’t think it is the same here but something to note nonetheless

Ya you don’t try to squeeze a franchise player. That is just kinda dumb. Not saying the Flames did, but there are certain players (2 or 3 on a team) that it really does not matter if they are overpaid by a million because you can’t replace them anywhere else. That just seems like complete common sense.

It’s a negotiation, regardless of the player you don’t roll over and just give them what they ask for. Gross is likely not expecting Tre to say yes to 11M. Just as Tre didn’t expect Gross to say yes to 9.5M.

I think it depends to what end you are ditching those contracts. If it costs assets and it’s just to re-sign all 3 wingers and/or OK and UFAs then I think it’s counter-productive.
If it facilitates some big changes by trading a valuable winger then sure.

I think Tre might spend calories there later . Didn’t the Oilers only get rid of Kassian’s salary? I could be misunderstanding, but I thought Keith’s cap hit is still there.

We knew the press would be on this at the draft. It’s a huge story.
Now that the draft is behind us I’m way more optimistic that JG signs with us.

Keith just has a recapture penalty for CHI.
Delusional oiler idiots think they should get a recapture credit

Johnny’s big sister and uncle have been a big reason why I’ve been optimistic about him staying for the last month or so.

I hate the Oilers but they really should be getting a cap credit because otherwise the entire league wide cap is reduced by the amount of the penalty on the Blackhawks. NHLPA can't be happy with that.

So you might have to take less tha market value to sign with us. And yeah we still have to make up a 40 point deficit to be in the playoff conversation. Yeah we had Gostisbehere a year ago but we gave up a pick to get rid of him, but don't worry - we traded for racist Gostisbehere yesterday. Our franchise player and captain was traded at the deadline because he wouldn't resign, because we're awful and will continue to be so going forward.
So you in?"

Very unlikely that Johnny goes to Philly. It's going to be way too tough for them to fit him in under the cap.
Plus the team is a dumpster fire, with no clear direction or vision on their future. If I were Johnny I'd stay away from them if he really cared about his legacy / earning potential or their winning potential.
Honestly, I think if rumours about his asking price are true, there are going to be very few teams capable of offering him a competitive deal, while Calgary still has the upper hand in negotiations and has established a strong relationship with him and his family over the past 10 years.

Don’t think getting rid of lucic is that easy. He probably has ihis 10 trade team clause set up so he won’t go to places like Arizona who will accept taking in cap for assets. Mony is on ltr so can’t trade him . Can’t really trade roster players when you don’t know if Johnny and Tkachuk are staying or going.

Photon himself posted earlier in the thread that he had on authority that a deal to move Lucic was pretty much done.

I predict that Johnny walks and Tkachuk accepts his QO to set himself up to become a UFA next year. Treliving decides to make a go of it and the Flames are a bubble team at the TDL, so they decide not sell. After barely missing the playoffs, the Flames are neither a lottery team or competitive. We then go through all this over again trying to get Tkachuk to re-sign, he doesn’t and the rebuild is no longer avoidable. The next few drafts end up being terrible.
Prove me wrong Flames, please!

Sounds like you just thought up the worst case scenario in your head and decided to make that your “prediction”. Must be fun being this type of fan.
I’m trying to stay positive but admittedly it’s not easy lol

It would be the same if the Hawks got the credit and didn’t use that cap space, or a team that doesn’t spend to the cap. Either way revenue is split 50/50 and it’s all made up for in the end.
