I’ll get burn for this but I wanted flames to get him. I’ve long not cared what players do off the ice. If they are good and can help you win is all that is important in team sports. I also have never thought sport athletes should be role models either.

Ellis to CBJ could make sense considering their interest in McDo

Getting a guy like that on your team might be a good way to not get a guy like Johnny

What makes you think that?
The only political issue I really ever heard him comment on was how he took a pretty inoffensive statement but clearly right-leaning stance on the NFL kneeling protests where he said he likes to stand and support the troops instead of taking the opportunity to support the kneeling.
I mean DeAngelo and Gaudreau are both from Jersey and have supported many of the same charity causes (Hollydell Arena for example).
Guy Gaudreau works for the Flyers...he also coached DeAngelo. If anything this is probably a move to entice Gaudreau, not the other way around.

From the same NHL article where Gaudreau talks about how sweet it would be to play with the Flyers:
Quote:
He's hosting the second annual Johnny Gaudreau Scholarship Golf Tournament at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, on July 28. The money raised will go toward scholarships at Gloucester Catholic High School, which Gaudreau attended. Current and former NHL players will be taking part in the event.
"When I was growing up I would have never gotten the chance to go to Gloucester Catholic without a lot of help from people," he said. "Now playing in the NHL, I figured it's good to give back to the school that kind of built me into who I am today. … [At the tournament, we have] Kevin Hayes (New York Rangers), Anthony DeAngelo, who's going to play for the Rangers next year, Kenny Agostino (Boston Bruins), who's the leading scorer in the [American Hockey League] last year, and we've got a lot of a couple older Flyers too, so it's an exciting time."

They're getting the band back together lol.

From a lockerroom standpoint, the guy seems to be friends with Hayes and crew. So, possible he is less of a distraction for the Flyers compared to his past.
From a hockey standpoint, only giving up picks for a point-per-game Dman is amazing. Flyers need a lot of help on D. Provorov has shown to be more of a 2-4 D; this trade makes them a lot more competitive. The biggest question is how competitive they will be, or if they will continue to toil in mediocrity.

That was before all the qanon stuff going on and the other things that put him in poor lighting even with the NYR which happened after the event that you mentioned. Just because you ran in similar circles to someone doesn't necessarily mean you like them. If they are friends then sure fair enough, but if they aren't close and it adds any negativity to the locker room you'd have to see that as a con to some degree. He put up decent numbers for the Canes, usually a team doesn't go out and get rid of a young player like after 1 yr. He may have brought factors with him they didn't like after the signing.

It also takes a group of 20 some odd men to work collectively in order to be successful. And this guy has been pushed away from two very good teams.

I don't see it that way with Carolina. He earned a bigger contract than they could afford moving forward. $19 million in cap space to deal with Necas, Domi, Niederreiter, trochek, stepan and sign 3 dman.
Sounds like a pretty ####ty guy, but a great move by the canes.

Word is, Ellis may be more injured than Flyers realised.
