Hard to say because we don’t know what the rest of the package was. But, based on what Chicago got for Debricat, it was probably another pick, or two. It was only a day ago, or so, people that it was going to be a package that included Mercer and/or Smith, Zacha, Bratt etc.

Bottom line, we don’t know what the offer was, or the extenuating circumstances, so why are we passing judgment?
Because this is a message board to discuss things and appeal to authority stifles interesting discussion and is lame, boring and an affront to critical thinking about what our favourite team should or shouldn't do in any particular circumstance.

I think the issue is you might not understand the business plan. I’m not saying I do either, but your assumption is that building a cup winner at all costs is their plan. I don’t doubt they want to win, but not sure that’s the mandate. Also not sure that’s the best business plan.

We are lucky to have our owners IMO, but they clearly won’t allow the Flames to cost them whatever it takes to win. They aren’t going to blow their personal finances just to win.

I don't expect them to blow personal money...unless it's in the areana as I do expect their cooperation to put in significantly on that.

Not sure it's wrong or right ... it just is.

Unless you think Treliving should have moved the free agency date to before the draft.

Johnny wants to be in Philly, in that market specifically or NJ as top 2.

He likes Calgary, but he doesn't want to be there long term.

He's gone, its his opportunity to be where he wants to be probably during the most important stretch of his career.

Tkachuk as well, his dad will make sure of it. Not because he doesn't "like" Calgary but because he'll have a chance to get the same/more money where he wants to be more than Calgary.

This is why The Yotes selected Cooley over Wright, Cooley wants to be in AZ as a U.S. born player and Wright has been rumored to not want to be here as a Canadian.

An ‘Afront’ ha, okay. I would say the level of discourse is far closer to emotions running wild than critical thinking.

I can't help but feel as if the team's pattern of reactive, short-term decision making has something to do with the paralyzed, leverage-less situation that it finds itself in.

So Johnny may or may not want to play for Tortts, but does he want to play with new Flyer Tony DeAngelo?

Deangelo is another south jersey guy, they played together growing up and were/are good friends IIRC

Oh boy, staying out it here until there are concrete developments.

So much catastrophic thinking going on here.

I'm happy the Flames have stable ownership that pay all the bills but Edwards is his own worst enemy as the team will never win a cup under his ownership and it's all on him for never truly committing to doing the right things.
Speaking with people who’ve worked with Edwards, he has his fingerprints on absolutely everything. Decisions don’t get made without him. I can’t see his work with the Flames being any different.

And a good morning to all of you as we come to the realization that all of our wounds are self-inflicted and we will likely never win under Edwards' ownership.

If Shane Wright wasn't given exceptional status as a 15 year old I doubt he's even in the conversation for the top pick. Everyone is just afraid there is some untapped potential in there that isn't coming out right now.

This confusion on communication could be on the interpretation side though. A lot of people read what people write on here and say "everybody's panicking" and it's like no, people are just discussing how the team's best player may walk for nothing but I can't imagine heart rates are running wild haha. Like all these people in their basements on CP are "freaking out" haha.

No, their just talking about Gaudreau rolling along for nothing in return, which is obviously objectively crappy. Right? It isn't illegal to point out things that are negative. In fact, that's sometimes how you identify the things the team should try to fix and adapt and correct. And then when people do they are met with "but you're not Treliving and don't know what he knows". Awesome. Yes. Brilliant.

During the draft broadcast they asked Fitzgerald if the #2 pick was ever in play. He paused, and then said yes it was. That he’s always trying to improve the team. So I’d wager the rumour is legit.

There was plenty of rumors of them in on Debrincat so it could just be that.
