No one bats an eye when a woman is complimented on her hair/accessories/outfit etc, and its a normal part of our culture. But men can go week, months or even years without hearing a genuine compliment about anything they are or do. And I think part of it is that it's just not as conventional and maybe is automatically interpreted by some to be flirting rather than just saying something nice? Been trying to wrap my mind around why there is more hesitancy to pay compliments to men in public settings. Obviously its not unheard of and I've been blessed enough to hear something nice now and again from people around work, but there is still undeniably a huge discrepancy on this side if the fence and if there anything that I think our culture could easily change with a bit of awareness it's this.

Here you have men disproportionately dominating the rates of suicides that are successfully carried out and I think you can trace that back to men generally lacking a real bearing on their value in the world. Many are intelligent, strong people to those that depend on them and work alongside them but have no idea that they bring this value to the lives of people in their circles just because it isn't expressed.

 Anyways.. that's my thought.

Just don't PM Wormius with a compliment that you enjoy his posts and are happy he is on CP. He'll go to the open forum and out you for being weird.

I'm not sure you need someone to "out" you for being weird, dude.

Not that there is anything wrong with being weird.

There’s so many amazing barbers in this city now, a good haircut or beard trim will get you compliments.

Women can't compliment men because that comes with the risk of the guy turning into a stalker-weirdo. Men can't compliment men because it makes us uncomfortable.

It gets more intense if you compliment their appearance, nearly all compliments for guys revolve around what they do, rather than how they look. As an experiment, I've forced my wife to give me a compliment, she initially resists, but when pressed she'll describe something that I do.

Did I out you for that? It WAS weird. No context either. It’s like saying somebody is really smart without an example.

The rabbit holes that someone can go down on YouTube are pretty wild. I started off by watching a few music videos which led me to some Italian DJ who did a bunch of odd mashups and remixes which took me to a bunch of orchestral EDM followed by the 2Cellos guys and finally to Steven Tyler playing at an Andrea Bocelli concert playing with the 2Cellos and doing a cover of Imagine with Andrea Bocelli. I would have never imagined that I would see this kind of stuff.

I left my job a week ago just before I had vacation planned. So I'm theoretically unemployed right now until I start my next job next week. It's been nice to not have to worry about anything work related this past week. Also been relieving to know that I'm not returning to a toxic and dysfunctional work place when this short vacation is done. I've actually been able to relax on this vacation for the first time in a long time.

Yup the between jobs "vacation" is the best. Unfortunately for me, most of my new employers have been pretty pushy about starting ASAP. Never seem to get the time I really want.

Flushing before you sit down reduces the odds of the toilet plugging after you take a deuce.

That’s abnormal, but I will at work because the toilets suck and there is always some particles floating around in the bowl from the previous user and that grosses me out.

Oh, I only pre-flush for public/work washrooms, not at home. I also always check for TP before committing to starting the process.

It’s amusing how some words mean something different in different cultures.
