You would think Francouz has the backup role pretty nailed down for next season.

Run with Francouz and Georgiev and see who runs with it?

Georgiev has shown flashes of being a #1, and behind that defense he'll likely find his game. Really is a 1A, 1B situation with Francouz.

Glad to hear it wasn't the Oilers.

Perfect sinerio would be Kemper going to the Oilers and crying the blues half way through the season, realising he made a huge mistake.

I'm surprised the Rangers couldn't get more for him actually... two 3rds & a 5th is basically magic beans for a young goalie who's likely at least a good backup on a team with good D. Likely gets a shot at the starting role, especially with Francouz's injury history.

I wonder if they flip Francouz to a cap strapped team looking to catch lightning in a bottle thinking he could become a starter at age 32. Perhaps said team was shut down by him in the playoffs? Just saying, Francouz Skinner sounds like an all time terrible tandem. Like inform Smith they need him off LTIR within a week in November bad.

I was surprised to learn Francouz was 32. I think they go with a 1A/1B situation with Georgiev and see who can run with it (hopefully the latter since he's a lot younger).

I've watched every Rangers game last year, have friends that work for them. Georgieve is not a starter, he's a good backup. They've been trying to trade him for a couple years.

With the team that they have upfront, makes sense to save some dough in goaltending. The duo of Georgiev and Francouz should suffice for the season.

Is he the first big fish confirmed player heading to free agency?

Sakic is a savant. How they only paid that price for a long term goaltending solution, is quite amazing. Certainly he has much to prove but with a solid defence he should be able to live up to expectations. How teams like the oilers or red wings didn’t pay more is beyond belief.

I recall last year Oilers were inquiring about him, but the cost was a 1st rounder which turned out to be Bourgault.

It’s quite stretch to say he is a long term goaltending solution. This is a 26 year old that has never been a starter and has had his numbers trending in the wrong direction since his rookie season. Who knows, maybe a change in scenery revitalizes him.

If Kuemper was too expensive for the Avs, he's gonna hurt the Oilers cap a lot. He made 4.5 AAV, but last season his salary was 5.5. He's gonna want that again at the very least. And he's not going to take a one year deal.

You could have said the exact same thing about Kiprusoff in 2003.

Yup. Kuemper will get a big deal from someone. Stanley Cup winner! NHL GMs are idiots on free agency day.

It definitely is speculative but I think having two goaltenders in their system hurt his confidence. On Colorado I think he’ll sort it out. Pure speculation on my part but I do believe in him. Especially at that cost.

Avs did take a backup in Phillip Grubauer and turned him into a starter, so there may be a chance this could happen with Georgiev.

Georgiev was terrible last season. Maybe in front of the Avs defense he will be better but I imagine he will end up as their backup to Francouz.

Avs win the cup and still making moves. I like it.

This is what I like to see, teams still making moves after winning.
