Don’t think we could get Mercer.
2nd overall, Holtz -> that’s two top-10 first rounders.
Would they need to add more? No clue. No one in Tkachuk’s spot/level of significance has been dealt in a very long time. Jack Eichel is of course the closest but that deal was marred by emotion and injury.

That poster was mentioning a sign and trade. There’s value in that for Jersey because adding an extra year helps them lower the AAV

Ok a pylon is exaggerating but he is not worth 4.5-5M long term. That is definitely true before he became the Flames. That’s how he got to us cheap.
One year bottom pairing for the Flames don’t make him that.
That said some teams may be stupid enough to do it. The NHL is full of GMs overpaying UFA….I.e Treliving

And Eichel has a contract that has five years left on it as opposed to Tkachuk who can become a UFA in a year.

We could probably also get Zacha another former top 6 pick albeit older than Tkachuk but not sure we want to do that unless Monahan is for sure gone

But he's also a year away from being a potential UFA.
That's going to lower the value you get unless he's willing to talk to the new team about signing a long-term deal.

That is going to be what happens. Flames will trade Tkachuk to a team where he is looking to sign. I think he 100% would sign with the Devils and the GM would likely also know as he is Walt’s cousin

Well, Mark Stone was a franchise winger who was dealt. TDL deal, so a little different. There's also a little issue of Tkachuk's contract, his average point count, not just his career year in a big scoring season league-wise, and whether NJD would just be inheriting Calgary's contract situation. They are already in an RFA dispute with Bratt.

If that's the case why would NJD simply not wait for him to become a free agent and get him for free?
That's a big premium to pay for 1 extra year of service.

Nobody wants to wait. Anything can happen in a year

I find it hard to believe the Flames are just going to lose Gaudreau and then run the team back. What a garbage step towards winning a Stanley Cup (if this is in fact what plays out).
Even signing Tkachuk long-term with Johnny gone makes no sense to me. The team is stuck in mediocrity at that point.

Someone not wanting to go to Buffalo? Absolutely shocking.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Given Matt Murray's current play he'd have wound up in Rochester. I don't blame him at all here.

So if Chucky isn’t going anywhere what would it take for us to get the second overall? Would Mangi + kylington get it done?

I mean, I've lived in Ottawa and it's pretty sleepy too, unless fake truckers are in town. But I suppose it is a team on the rise, with a new building on the way.
Murray also knows there are other, better teams goalie shopping.
