The Oilers have discussed pursuing Claude Giroux in free agency, per Pierre Lebrun.

Would surely take the Flyers out of the Gaudreau sweepstakes if it were to happen.

They are in no position to be making a move like this. They need a rebuild year and Debrincat does not move the needle enough to even get them into the playoffs. Then he probably commands $9 mil a year.
If they had a very strong prospect pool maybe this deal is ok but it makes no sense and they just continue to blow it off season after off season

I hope this is true. Other than face offs Giroux doesn't fit with this team like Kane did. He needs to puck on his stick to be effective and he just won't have it.
He is not a player than can drive his own line anymore and will be 35 by mid season. I doubt he will be cheap to sign either but if this is over a $6 mil contract I will be very happy to see this happen

If Debrincat can get the 5th overall pick though, Tkachuk should definitely be worth 2nd overall +.
That would be a terrible decision for philly, even though I think spending the draft capital for a guaranteed player in this draft is not a bad plan. Debrincat just can't actually help them be a better team.

It really depends on if either will sign a long term extension. Debrincat has expressed a desire to do so. Tkachuk?

Kadri would have been amazing to acquire 4 years ago, but he nixed that deal. Don't make the mistake of paying his retirement contract.

I agree with setting a date before the draft for gadreau to give an indication of testing free agency. It doesn't mean that he won't sign in Calgary, it just means that he will look at other offers, and that is valuable information to have. It also drastically effects the flames at the draft.

Maybe they are looking for a real captain.

I'm not big on ufas, but sign johnny, trade Tkachuk for big return and sign giroux, would be an interesting retool on the fly. I think he is a better fit than Kadri, once contract is taken into consideration.

Debrincat has a year left at a bargain salary. Wondering if Philly thinks, if they can't make a great deal for an extension, they can trade him at the next TDL for a pick in 2023 draft which is better than this one.
They may just think Debrincat is young enough to fit their rebuild. Roughly same age as Provorov, Konecny, Cates, Hart, York, Attard.
The fly in the ointment is that the Flyers don't have a second rounder, so if they trade 5OA they don't pick until round three.

The seal is broken now and it's a clean slate. He will go where the money is and where he thinks he can contribute. I think it is also worth something to a player when they know a team really wants him, and if the Flames offer a contract, he might see that as meaningful.
Not saying we should sign him. The kind of contract he is going to get could backfire, but if money and cap were not a consideration, I do like the player. Unfortunately, the cap is a thing that needs to be considered.

I like Kadri's game a lot. But someone is gonna overpay based on his last season, which seems to be a bit of an outlier.

Kadri is going to get a massive payday and he’s going to be 32 when next season begins. His next contract is going to really hurt whoever signs him in the long term. He’s 32 and just had the best year of his career (by far). I’d say stay the hell away.

In my view Kadri is a no go, first he has already rejected a trade with the Flames
My main concern is, would last season be a 1 time type of an offensive season?
My guess he either stays in Colorado or signs within the States
