Depending on the alumni who are around here that's pretty good info. Some are more hooked in than others. Berezan seems pretty in touch with what's going on. Corbet never struck me that way. Commodore just seems to go with his gut.

The most interesting thing about the larger alumni network chatter is that that's the most likely source so far that may have actual knowledge of Johnny's thoughts, presuming Johnny talks to some of the alumni.
Hope slightly buoyed.

Even if Johnny wants to come back, it’s more beneficial for him to wait and get Treliving to up the offer
Only question is how long.

Alumni and people close to him should know if he likes Calgary
They probably don’t know much what offers he is dealing with

Remember Johnny has said all the right things to the media and the Flames but the reality is that only his inner circle know his true intentions. I doubt any of the alumni are close enough to the Gaudreau's to know as it's not like even Treliving knows what's the final decision is going to be. Johnny has played his cards close to his vest here far better than most UFA's in this situation. We have to be prepared for anything at this stage.

I have little doubt Johnny likes Calgary. I think it's well known he believes he's been treated very well here.
The real question is where does he want to play the next 7-8 years?
I have little doubt if he chooses Calgary, a deal will get done.

The Johnny and Mony hugging video overlaid with the Titanic theme should be the first post in the new signing thread.

If anyone(outside of his immediate family) really knew if Johnny was staying or going, it would get released pretty quickly.
I think if Johnny knew he was definitely leaving he'd tell Treliving right away.
I still think there's a chance he could do either.

I agree with you but the one thing I think gets passed over here fairly often is that if Gaudreau signs an 8 year deal with the Flames, that’s no guarantee he stays here for all 8 years. It’s reasonable to think the Flames, with Gaudreau and some other key players, will remain competitive for the short term but that can easily change.
He could still find himself in the eastern US down the road.

Exactly.
If the Flames fail to stay competitive in the next few years, they'll need to trade top players for young assets anyway and not pull another Iginla.

Agreed. But if he signs here, I think it means this is where he plans to make his home. I don't think Johnny can plan for this not to be an 8 year commitment regardless of what may happen.

Easily tradable to a team that doesn’t care about a cap hit, or simply wants to reach cap floor.

Well except that he has an 8 team trade list and the teams that don’t care about the cap or trying to reach the floor are likely not on it.
Would be awesome if a team like Arizona was as I’m sure they’d love Lucic but I doubt Lucic wants to go there.

Who knows which way this goes, but his actions so far are completely consistent with someone who intends to return but is trusting his agent to get him the best deal possible.

I would be surprised if Treliving doesn't already have a pretty clear understanding about whether Gaudreau will extend or move on. If there is a sense among a number of the alumni that he will be re-signing, then I doubt this feeling is based on nothing. On the contrary, this aligns with some other things we have seen posted here from other inside sources in the past week or two.
