Are we at a point where we can admit that this team just isn't quite as good as we'd hoped? I mean, they're not a bad team. They're actually quite good. They might get a wild card at the end of the day. But they're just... they're not great.

I think they are right where I expected them to be. Top 10 team who is gonna be in a tight race for the playoffs. Of course Yankees doing what they have been doing all year makes it seem worse then it is. But I think most of us expected us to be in an AL east race all year.

^ Agreed. I expected pitching overall to be a bit better, but the team is not that far off from my expectations

This is a really good team with a few holes in it
They have a top 5 offense, maybe even better
They have 3 really good SPs (Just not the 3 you would have thought)
They have 2 inconsistent SPs
The bench OFs are really weak
The bullpen is the weakest link
Other than at catcher they have no MLB ready depth in their minor league system so injuries will severely weaken the roster because the replacements will be below replacement level, as we saw today with the starting pitching
Still on pace for 90 wins.

I just don't think they play to their strengths. Yeah they're a great hitting team and because of that the manager is too timid to run thinking that their bats alone will bail them out. Well, sometimes bats go cold and you have to manufacture a run.
There is no point having Tapia and Zimmer on the team if you never run. The other guys aren't that slow either. Teoscar is one of the fastest guys in the league, we've seen him run out ground balls into infield singles. He's got 3 stolen bases. They are 26th in the league in stolen bases per game. I'm not saying they should be the 85 Cardinals but with the youth and speed they have, they should be top half. Also running is not just for stolen bases, it's to put pressure on the pitcher and defense, something the Jays don't do enough. Therefore, they're in the bottom half of more GIDPs.

Can someone explain to me how Zimmer is still on the team ?
Not that it makes a major difference - but we’re half way through the season and one of our bench spots is occupied by a guy hitting .120 with no power
And he’s not that great at D and isn’t that fast to justify those numbers

and yet remarkably heading into today (and I doubt its changed after his unicorn homerun) he has a higher (BR) WAR than Tapia...I'll admit until the last year or so I've taken several years off closely following baseball for a few reasons, I'm trying to be back all in, but it can't be that hard to find live body OFers, can it?

Well Tapia was /is negative WAR so the lack of playing time actually helps Zimmer
But it is amazing we have these two as our OF bench bats .

Horrible, when I first saw that after waking up I thought it was both his wife and daughter who passed away.

That's exactly how it reads. The Jays should have worded it in a way that was clear and didn't make it seem like his wife also passed away.
Thoughts and well wishes to the Budzinskis.

Oh Chapman. Looked like he thought he could beat the runner to 3rd. And then made a horrible throw. Not very platinum glove there.

Terrible tragic news.
Wording is crystal clear. Not ambiguous in any way.

Hernandez needed to hit the deck or run backwards, make the tag harder.
