I mean this is kind of underlining my point from the Garcia match at Bad Homburg. Rybakina is pretty good, and her serve is helped by the surface. But she's not a top 10 quality player. 2019 Bianca was clearly a top 10 quality player, in fact, top 3 quality. This Bianca is not that. She is sort of top 20-30, competitive against the other good but not great players, not a threat to the top ones.

women's tennis is like this, no sustained dominance by anyone except Iga right now, but even with her, it's still too early to tell.
The Brits have alot to cheer about today. Boulter just took out Pliskova and Dart is a set up on Peglua, but about to lost set 2.

Kind of a bummer but when Shapovalov is the last guy standing you know you are being set up for disappointment.

You just can't jump into a summer slam like this and expect to have any significant results when you have barely been playing all season. There are solid take-aways with her game, but I'm constantly just waiting on the next injury to drop with her.

Nakashima is doing nothing, he has 4 winners.
Guy won the first set 6-2 with 3 winners.

Isn't that the process to beat Shapo though? Just get the ball back in play and wait for the unforced error? That said, Denis is playing better here in set 2.
Edit: And he just broke Nakashima.

If he squeaks by Nakashima here (it sounds laughable that this would even be a challenge) he's just got a royal gift with RBA pulling out of his match. You don't often get to face a player outside the top 100 in the third round of a slam.

It does look like he's playing better and I'd probably tip him to win now. But yes, you're correct. Shapo isn't a guy who's going to try and find solutions when things aren't going his way. He's just going to keep blasting and it is usually his downfall.

And Galan is exclusively a clay courter, he's just here because his ranking was high enough.

Gabriela Dabrowski and Giuliana Olmos won their opening round doubles match just now (Gaby is also playing mixed doubles alongside John Peers).

Well, that's a much better set of tennis from Denis.

Rafa takes set 1 but Wimbledon is still a work in progress, as he didn't look good. His level on grass has gone way down since 2010, just doesn't play it enough.

We need to go back to electronic line-calling, Shapo was victimized by a bad line call in that previous game and of course when you replay the point, Nakashima gets a first serve. Credit to the American for taking advantage, but we should take advantage of the tried-and-true technology.

This set is done and dusted and Shapo will need to go the distance if he wants to see round 3.

Really I think it was amazing he was able to translate his game to the surface at all during his peak years. Obviously his movement is just not the same as it was 10-12 years ago, but he could still go deep if the draw opens up for him.
