If Johnny leaves he leaves not gonna get butt hurt over it. I'm also confident Tre has a plan B and he shouldn't be waiting the last hour on a decision.

Not true. Parise (Wild), Tavares, Spezza (Leafs), Glencross, Bouwmeester (Flames), Chelios (Hawks), Ronning (Canucks, technically a trade to be closer to home) all to mind. I am sure if I put my mind to it, there would be many other examples. That's just players that signed with their hometowns, and not ones who signed somewhere just to be somewhat close.

I think we lose Gaudreau, Monahan will still be medically recovering most of the next season and never the same again. After Monahan and Lucic are off the books, we will have to do a Swedish rebuild if we hope to get into any contention again.

Possibly Tkachuk and Mangiapane are gone also because while Mangiapane was explosive this season, he was also not as consistent or as game changing as the salary he will demand deserves.

There's a slim chance that Toffoli finds his game to replace Gaudreau's production but he's not a puck carrier but a scorer and he seems to have declined as well. He needs a Gaudreau/Suzuki type feeder.

Why would Johnny take an offer unless it’s unrefusable.
It’s probably his last contract, he wants to see all offers.

Because if money is what’s important and if it’s his last contract the Flames will offer the most money because of the 8 year advantage, but if he waits until UFA they can no longer do that.

Just a realist, not trying to be a debbie downer but looking at what's in front of us. The ray of sunshine for me is if we can get Forsberg and do a real swedish rebuild.

What’s a Swedish rebuild? Is it like a Swedish massage?

Biggest concern is that he is a big family guy and if his wife also wants to go home then it might be sealed.

Then there are some Flame fans that will come up with any excuse to speculate a player wants to leave.
There are 29.4 million reasons Coleman came here. He had career earnings of like $7M and coming off 2 Stanley Cups it was a no-brainer for him to chase the cash.

DAL is also a fairly isolated NHL city. Some of the Central Division teams might have been a bit closer, but it seems unlikely that DAL or COL or STL or NAS or CHI or MIN would have matched CGY's offer. At which point CGY isn't much different than anywhere else.

STL signed Saad for 5x4.5M. Saad is 1 yr younger with a longer track record and if anything slightly better stats. Would STL have given Coleman an extra year of term + $400k AAV ?

NAS re-signed Granlund for 4x5M. Known quantity to them who can play C. Same age player, 2 years less term.

CHI got a 2nd to take on the last 3 years of Tyler Johnson.

Carneys Point is closer to Philadelphia’s arena than Okotoks is to the Saddledome.

Little different than the Cole Harbour situation.

You can swing a cat in Carney's Point and it'll land within a 5-hour drive of 7 NHL teams. And another 10 teams in the US within a 3 hr direct flight.

None of that means that CGY is a bad team or city or that Johnny would be unhappy to stay here. He just might be a bit happier somewhere else. It's not the end of the world.

No, not the end of the world but it’s a huge kick to the pills if he doesn’t re-sign. Losing that type of asset for nothing hurts.

I like the idea of Forsberg too, but assuming we lose all of Gaudreau, playable Monahan, Tkachuk and Mangiapane looks like negative leaps to me than a realist's perspective (IMO).

Treliving would be fired into the sun if that many losses came to fruition.

Sure so why is he not signing if they offered the highest?

He doesn’t want to stay?

I was fairly optimistic that Johnny was going to sign here, but after reading some of the news today I’m not too sure. I would hope the Gaudreau camp lets their intentions be known soon so the organization can plan accordingly. I get that agents get involved and advise players on how to capitalize but I would also think that there should be some goodwill on the players part. Hopefully he stays as I think he could cement his legacy as one of the Flames greats. Like I said, I know it gets complicated with agents and all that, but to go silent (if the reports are accurate) seems disrespectful given how the organization has treated him and his family. If it’s a money thing then make a counter proposal. If there is zero intention on staying here then I would hope that is known soon.

Sure, he is a big family guy, all hockey players are. What I find funny is the guy who started this whole rumour that he wanted to be close to home and would leave is now saying Gaudreau will re-sign. That person is Eric Francis. He bet wrong and now that he knows he did he is saving face by stating the obvious, Gaudreau is staying. It is hilarious that so many people swallowed what was pure speculation by a hack writer as fact. The only thing we have ever heard from Gaudreau is he wants to stay, his wife and family love the city, he wants to be here, yet some bad beat writer who put his speculation out for clicks has people still believing that garbage, even after he has done an about face on it. Mind boggling.
