Gaudreauvertime is in this thread again.
Should a mod take that poster out of the sin bin so we can see what he/she has to say?
Or is that a bad idea?

If the kid thing is true (haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if I'm missing new info) I can understand it.
Having young kids is hard enough on the mom when the dad doesn't have to travel most of the time for work. If someone tells you that you can keep your job and pay and move closer to family to help support, that's just being a good husband/dad. If Johnny's family is more important to him than work, I have nothing but respect for that.

Y'all realize that everything said thus far is conjecture, even from the "insiders"...
Negotiations don't happen in the media or public. And tre is notoriously tight lipped about any negotiation. For all we know, they are negotiating over a beer on Johnny's boat.

It’s not a ‘camp’, it’s called reality. Why are you here? Go stare at the clouds until the decision is announced.

Imagine:
1. Signing Johnny for $10.5m AAV
2. Signing Forsberg for $8.5m AAV
3. Trading Tkachuk for Holtz, 2nd OA, Smith (wasn't that what a Devils fan proposed?)
That'd be one hell of an off season IMO
|
I have to agree, this is the dream scenario.
No doubt this is also why it has 0 chance of actually happening. More likely we lose Johnny for nothing, are forced to sign a QO with Tkachuk and pitch too much money at Forsberg to lure him.

Where did all this "tre is notoriously tight lipped" stuff come from? It's always said by people, but IMO we have had way more leaks and insights in the Tre era than other eras of the flames. I would like to see some evidence of this before it gets constantly paraded about.

No one knows anything, just that it hasn't happened and there isn't any information out there because negotiations like this occur in private. I think that other poster is right, its just to create drama for clicks.
How many hundreds of times did the narrative change during the Eichel sweepstakes? Theres going to be so much crap pushed out there based on hearsay before his deal is inked and announced.
I just find it hard to imagine a scenario where he picks Philly for a year/7-8 million less and bails on his long time teammates and friends.
He will re-up.

I just want to know what the Flames have actually offered in dollars and AAV.
What the media is saying about the Flames side is they've said "tell us what you want in dollars and we'll make it work if you want to be here" but that's not an offer, that's just a vague commitment.

Why does any one care? I don't even know why Gaudreauvertime was memorable to people here (aside from a neat handle). You're welcome to fill me in.

Just based on what I've seen. But this goes to my point. All conjecture. Nobody truly know anything, other than what they've been led to believe. The only people that know what's going on are Gaudreau and his camp, and the Flames executives.
Anybody that pretends to have an inside edge, even the so called insiders, are only connecting dots on the breadcrumbs they're given.

What?? Since Tre has been GM the insiders rarely get any scoop on contract negotiations, potential trades or even overall draft/free agent strategy. All we get is "we'll try and make the team better, if it makes sense" and "its a process". I can kind of recall one leak where the flames got angry at the other GM for leaking it. Most of the time the first time anyone knows anything about the flames, its after it already happened.
Relative to other GM's he is tight lipped. The "notorious" comes from all the pundits / insiders saying it over and over.

I think it mostly depends on how many drinks Conroy has had.

|
Just listened to it and there's a correction that is important. Seravalli said that he believes the dialogue between the two camps have continued, but he doesn't believe the Gaudreau camp has come back with an answer on the rumored Flames pitch.
Or in other words, it hasn't been silent (since they are still talking), but he doesn't think the Flames have received an answer to their pitch yet.
If they are indeed still talking, that's a good situation in my view. Certainly better than the two sides no longer continuing to talk.

The friends/teammates thing is a bit funny to me if you look at the Flames contract situation. None of his besties are guaranteed to be here past 2024. The only guys locked down (Andersson, Markstrom, Coleman) haven't been here that long.

They're so used to doing the NJ-Calgary lifestyle at this point i don't see why they would sacrifice that extra dough just for geographical improvement.
And again, Philly and NJ suck right now.

Maybe, but it’s hard to imagine $70M vs $80M makes a big difference for security. I get that players want top dollar but those are such surreal numbers for most people.

IMO, don't think the eigth year matters much. Of course he'd take it if the plan they sold him was good enough.
Honestly, I think he's somewhere else starting the season in the fall. The family thing is a massively convincing argument for me.
Just the way the cookie crumbles. Plus I think he's the kind of guy that does better when the bright burning spotlight isn't on him completely. Which IMO (again) gets hotter if he signs in CGY.
It'd be cool if he stayed but as this draws to a close, I'm not a believer. Eastern conference team it is for him.

This isn't hockey but it ties to the situation. I wish Johnny would chat with Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers.
Freddie was drafted by the Braves and was the face of the franchise since Chipper Jones retired. This last season Freeman left the Braves as FA for the Dodgers (he is from So Cal). The Braves offered him a 5 year, 140 million offer. Dodgers signed him for 6 years 168 million with 50ish million deferred. Freeman's agent gave the Braves an ultimatum and when the deadline wasn't met the Braves thought their chance was over so made a blockbuster trade (and sign) for another player.
Freeman was in Atlanta for the first time since leaving in UFA last weekend and was visibly shaken and upset. He has since fired his agent. Ex-teammates are allegedly saying Freeman has confided in them that he isn't happy how the FA process concluded and isn't happy he still isn't with the Braves.
There is something to be said about staying with a franchise you're the face of. A place where you could cement your legacy and have your number retired. At the end of the day Johnny has earned the right to what he wants. But staying with the Flames to cement his legacy does have a value.

Doesn't his dad have heart issues? I moved away from where my parents lived, I still saw them regularly but not as often as I would have if I lived there. I recently lost a parent and I would give up anything to see them again or to see them hold one of my children. All the money in the world won't fix that.
I get money is important but family trumps it. If he changes teams to be closer to family, I'll respect him even more...if he goes to some random team for big money, I'll hate him with the fire of a thousand suns.
