What you want are compostable straws. 7-Eleven has compostable spoon straws for slurpees. They don't get mushy like paper straws, but they do biodegrade so we won't have more videos of that poor turtle crying while getting the plastic straw pulled out of his nose.

Sounds like user error. Paper straws are the worst, but if you don’t screw around with it, chew the end, or slobber on it like an old dog they clear a whole 2.5 hour movie easy.

I can live without straws myself, but I think expecting to keep a straw dry is a little much. You’d have to suck on it like reverse playing a flute.

Nah, when you're trying to get the last bit of pop out after a couple hours the straw bends within the cup. Has nothing to do with slobbering on it.

They definitely get "soft" and to a point where you're asking for trouble if you even try to adjust it.
That's why you gotta nail the first placement. Which is dumb that you need a technique for a straw to keep it useable, but this is how we live now.

Worst are the cardboard like utensils. I had a poutine at McDonald's and couldn't eat it because the fork just gave me a nails on a chalkboard sensation every time it touched my mouth

Your first mistake was ordering poutine at McDonalds. Shoestring fries don't work as well for poutine and the package gravy is not great either. Agreed on the fork.
