I know that the provincial government does not dictate the pace of the world, but everything has become more expensive since the UCP have been in power.

Do you mean to tell me that removing the caps on insurance premiums didn’t lead to lower costs? I’m shocked and stunned by this completely predictable outcome.

Ugh that would be awful. Starlink is fine if you live in the boonies but the latency issues it has are annoying as #### if you're doing more than just browsing websites and ####posting on Twitter

She thinks she is clever. That is not a clever idea. That's something someone would suggest who has no idea how laws, regulations and technology work. Good job staying on brand, Danielle.

Like, this is Freemen-on-the-land levels of dumb.

Yes, lets be independent by giving control of critical infrastructure to one person who is questionable. As long as it's not the Libs amirite?

If Albertans are already pissed with the lack of ISP choices in Canada, wait until Elon Musk and his American based, premium-priced Starlink is the only game in town.

She understands how to appeal to the convoy-esque Conservatives. These kind of untied from reality claims will appeal to them because its seen as being a fighter.

Question is - how much of Alberta UPC membership falls under that spell. I suspect its not a small percentage.

It would almost certainly be the majority of UCP supporters considering, nationally, 46% of Conservatives support (and only 30% oppose) the convoy and other surveys have shown that, generally, support is highest in Alberta, e.g. 40% of all Albertans supported the convoy.

They thought that it was, but no. Everything with the caveat that I'm not a historian.

The height of western political culture was WWII through to the civil rights movement. It was a time when government kept the welfare of the people at the forefront, and your entire political personality wasn't determined by your color of shirt. In America, the last 'real' President was Eisenhower. After that is was just increasing waves of corruption.

Were there issues. All over the place. The difference is that they were being discussed in parliament/congress and solved. It's difficult to see anything political done these days without a corporate or cultish driver.

Someone brought up the caps on insurance (which was good) and it lasted, what, two years? It was scrapped without consultation and with the province staring you in the eye telling you to get ####ed.

I'd take 70s, 80s, 90s over this. And politically the 80s sucked balls, Reaganomics and trickle-down was the genesis of the ####storm we're in now. But it's kind of adorable compared to Alberta being 94B in debt. What the hell? We are the third biggest oil producer in the world! How bad of a government do you have to be?

On the provincial level, Lougheed is the Alberta gold standard, and that was 70s, 80s.

That feels like a drunken rant, and I'm drinking tea.

So I decided to do what I did with the Liberals, and go through the legislation passed, and see what has been done well for Albertans. Before I did this for the Liberals, I thought they were meh. After I realized the Liberals SUCK at controlling messages and are quietly doing a good job.

Session 1: (29 government bills, these were the only positive)
- Clare's Law - allows those who fear they are in trouble of domestic violence to access their partner's criminal record.
- Opioid damages and health care costs recovery act

One note on session one, I think the trespass statues act is terrible and was solving media hype and not an actual problem. I could see situations where people could get away with some pretty terrible stuff with this act.

There were bills I clicked on here that sounded good, based on the title, but I was either remind about what they actually did or learned how terrible they were.

Session 2 (87 government bills, these were the only positive):
- Critical Infrastructure Defense Act - though they never used it when they needed to, so was it really good?
- Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis - while not perfect, I think Alberta did a better job them most other provinces.
- Opened up arbitration for Mobile Home Site Tenancies, as you could only go to court before.
- Protecting survivors of human trafficking
- Geothermal resource development act - not that they've done what they promised...
- Banned police carding

Session 3 (24 government bills, this was the only positive)

- Provincial court sexual assault awareness training.

Reading some of the bills they passed, the UCP is much worse than what they appear in the media. I left out COVID, because their response was overall terrible, late, or didn't use the good stuff they did pass.

You have a summary posted for your analysis of the liberals?

I know you're being facetious and making a point that the NDP government of 2015-2019 is not entirely to blame for the debt, but it bears repeating for those that don't know: other than the 2014-15 fiscal year, which was just a flukey one-off at the end of the Redford/Prentice PCs' term buoyed by higher than expected oil prices and deferring billions in capital borrowing to later fiscal years, the Alberta government—no matter which governing party—has had deficits every single year since 2007-08.

We were already about $11B in debt at the beginning of the NDP's reign and yes, they added about $32B to that debt over four years, but the UCP government racked up over $29B in its first two years. They can be somewhat forgiven for the 2020-21 and '21-'22 Covid-impacted budgets, but their first budget, the 2019-2020, was entirely unaffected by Covid-related spending and it was the single biggest deficit year in Alberta's history, at $12.2B.
