Second vote for Opera. Awkward to use??? you must must have been trying opera for DOS, since once you try Opere you will never go back. Mouse gestures are a must and it speaks too.

I'm getting used to Opera. there are some website that I prefer its rendering (Yahoo Pools) but there are other things Firefox does better (the extensions). They are both very good.

I haven't tried IE7. My only experience with it was when my father phoned me to aske what was wrong on a web page. There was nothing wrong - IE7 wasn't rendering it correctly. Loaded up FF and it worked perfectly. I'll probably load IE7, just so I can give it a try for when I (inevitably) get tech calls from family.

Firefox and IE will have more compatibility than Opera because of sheer usage...

But several tech websites have done benches and Opera was much faster outright in rendering pages than both Firefox and IE. Also Opera is much more intuitive and everything you need is there without needed additional widgets and plugins and Firefox extensions.

I can't live without Opera's mouse gestures, the find in page search on page, and the zoom is amazing because it zooms everything on the page including images and video. Firefox and IE typically only zoom the text. A lot of those annoying web videos that are locked and don't have a fullscreen option can just be manually zoomed with Opera. Same with Flash games. A lot of useful buttons and totally customizable UI out of the box too. I love the hide pictures button that sits right on the corner and all the keyboard commands, etc. to make it look like I'm reading text/working when I'm at work.

But yeah, after Opera's mouse gestures and ease of use and install anywhere, I can't use anything else. It also has built in clients for transfering/downloading, bt, mail, news, etc. etc. but those don't get it in way since they aren't on by default and you don't need to use them if you don't want to. Opera can be totally usable in a complicated and comprehensive way...or utterly simple and clean and pretty if you want...all out of the small free download. No need to add anything.

Plus Opera powers the Wii!!! (although it's totally different)

Yeah, I didn't explain what I meant by that did I.

By awkward I mean it's too complicated to setup to my liking. I prefer an extremely clean interface with a menu, a navigation/address bar and a quick search window. Firefox does it out of the box, Opera requires a while to setup.

Plus, I've just found Firefox to be lighter and quicker to use. There is no sluggishness to it, like in IE or Opera. Could just be my computer though.

I don't know what you mean since Opera comes like that out of the box too. Takes me 30 seconds at most to tweak a few things. Opera renders pages faster (as confirmed by many tech sites), but I have a feeling the way it caches data may be slower.

A mouse gesture is like...well it's like controlling your browser with your mouse like you would a Nintendo Wii controller.

No need to move your mouse to press buttons on the corners of the screen. Just hold down right click and make an "L" shape to close a window, go up and down to refresh, down-up to make a new window, etc. You can also navigate that way.

yup, I used IE for the longest time, til my techie told me about FF. I much prefer FF now and its been about 6 months.

Firefox, it blocks almost everything. Especially if you are in a house hold where multiple people use the same computer (this seems to be the case where the most spy ware is present).

Yeah the zoom function is great. Any huge images can bee sized to viewable size with a couple of hits to a minus button. Also the "find with search engine"-function when you paint some phrase on page is brilliant.

It frustrates me so much when i have to use IE in my university. I try to hit minus button and do a mouse gesture frantically but nothing happens. I can't understand how someone would willingly use such garbage.

I've used Firefox for a couple of years [someone here recommended it] and I like it. Seems safer and I like the extensions like Forecast Fox, Answers, Stealther and Bugmenot.

Opera sounds interesting with that image zoom function. If I install it will it transfer my bookmarks from Firefox?

Yes it transfers. I think it scans for them during install, but if not, there is a function "Import bookmarks from firefox". Also from IE and konqueror. Just try it, you have nothing to loose.

I use Firefox. I can't live without "All-in-One Gestures" extension. I've also found that viewing the web without any advertising is nice, so I use the Adblock Plus extension. I used to use Opera way back when the free version was banner supported. And it was still way better than IE. But then Firebird came along, and there was no need for Opera.

But, maybe I'll give a try again sometime. I only worry about getting all the media codecs and plugins working in Opera. Took a bit of work to get going on my Linux desktop in Firefox.

Opera is free now and works fine out of box. Never had any problems with codecs and you don't need extensions for any of the features as they are built in. The old banner supported Opera was terrible though, I agree.

ctrl+T opens a new tab, ctrl+PageUp or PageDn switches between tabs, you can also right click on a link and select "open in new tab". they work pretty quick for me.

I've been using FF for over a year and it works great. I'm going to have to try this mouse gesture stuff though.

EDIT: just got "All-in-one Gestures". sweet! if you dont have it, go get it and try it. it's pretty slick.
