Agreed...with all the ins and outs of through the years Pinder, Walker, Klein, Rhett, Rob Kerr, Ryan Leslie, Jason Deforest etc. etc. For those of us that enjoy the Fan, Boomer has always carried the mornings and been the consistent and Steinberg carries the afternoon and been the consistent. You don't miss Pinder or Rhett as much when they were away but when Boomer is away it's like you lose that glue guy that keeps it all together and the flow of the show going. It's not going to be the same without him no matter how long this goes on for. Similar to when Steinberg is away, just not the same. Huge loss for us that have enjoyed Boomer in the morning for so many years.

Just going off what they've done with the Toronto station - they are likely going full podcast mode. The radio broadcast is basically an afterthought on the Toronto station beyond the morning show - they push the youtube streams and podcasts more than the radio.

Sad news. Boomer is fantastic and the morning show has been the only consistently entertaining show on 960 for years.

I'd love to see him go into a podcast or something similar. When the station had that sudden Covid break earlier this spring and Boomer and Pinder did those late night Instagram live hits, I thought they were very entertaining and would be very interested in listening to Boomer in an environment where he isn't constrained by the restrictions being the host of a corporate radio show brings. I think it could be very entertaining.

Yeah, completely agree. If he takes that leap and does his own podcast, I have no doubt it'd be a huge success with a number of his loyal listeners migrating to his show.

Yeah, I don't think we know anything at this stage but Flames Talk ended on Friday last week "for the summer" (I think).

...Boomer bails today.

NHL rights end after next week (draft concludes EoD on the 8th I believe).

So, who knows? I hope we aren't outright losing local radio coverage. If Rogers drops the ball I hope TSN is there to pick it up.

SN960 actually had one of their stronger ratings periods in a long time, which is likely due to the Flames' success. Even still, they only had more total listeners than Funny, Wild, and CBC-2.

Unfortunately, Numeris doesn't seem to make their full set of data available anymore and these are just overall percentages, so it doesn't give insight into the total number of listeners or hours tuned, which are the numbers that really matter to advertisers.


Considering the costs for the broadcast rights and producing the live games, it would not be surprising if the station just doesn't pay its own way. I believe they didn't even have Wills and Loubo travel to road games this year, even when COVID restrictions were relaxed.

What's the problem with Flames centric podcasts that aren't stuck with the dead radio format? Not having mediocre AM radio coverage is far from embarrassing.
