"I still think gaudreau is going to resign"
Fella, you have NEVER said this publicly before lol. No way you can jump ships on this one now.
Francis continues to be a total joke. But, consequently, his opinion is entirely meaningless. Him changing it does not make Johnny signing any more or less likely to happen. Francis will be finding out at the same time (or much later) than the rest of us.

You know...it's ppl like him that make things interesting at times. I personally love all the big opinions on the site.
And who on here is really ever sharing their personal information, that's silly.

In the 2016 signing thread he was posting like 100 times a day constantly pumping Johnny, as if we needed convincing. Pretty sure he got a temp ban too for being obnoxious.
Seemed very odd that he only posted there... then never again.

Just read the bolded part. Professional athletes and their families for the most part are set for life. People are talking like if he doesn't maximize this contract, he'll be pumping gass in a few years. The poor guy may have to "make a sacrifice" and sign for $75-80 milion. If you could pick almost anywhere you want to live and work and raise a family and make 80 million or be stuck in one place that may not be your first choice for 8 years to make an extra 8 million or whatever it'll work out to. I get it, $8 million is a lot of money but for someone who will still be making around 80 million and has already made around 40 million to date, that 8 million isn't that important. Plus if he signs for 7 years in one place, he can still sign an 8th year later on...it likely won't be for the 8ish he isn't making now but it'll still be for something.
The guy will pick where he wants to play, location will mean everything. Plain and simple. He isn't poor. He has a lot of money. The one extra year or the 8 or 9 more million additional dollars on the career earnings won't matter. These elite guys want to make as much as they can but realistically the money doesn't matter too much. And if you think he is going to be hurting for that extra money, he must be doing something real dumb with his money and should probably move close to his parents so they can take care of him.

This defies logic for the lions share of people. Rich people don’t just stop caring about making money, despite regular middle class peoples belief that they should because they’re “set” (according to them with zero understanding of their finances).
How many pro athletes go bankrupt and insolvent? Tons of them, because they’re spending habits outpace revenues after their careers are done to unsustainable levels.
Just because you sign an $80MM contract doesn’t mean you just “don’t care” anymore about a few million dollars. Would you stop caring about a few million dollars? Also at what arbitrary contract value should, in your opinion, people “just stop caring” about a few million dollars?
Gaudreau will look to maximize money as he should.

That is a hell of a package.

Not directed at you Vinny...
Why does every trade involving the Flames and Devils result in the Devils getting absolutely fleeced every time?

The thing about that specific deal is it was proposed by a Devils fan!

I wouldn't go so far as to say you're wrong, but people are people.
Gaudreau's primary motivation could be money, or maybe not. Money could be a few notches down on the priority list. I suspect the questions being asked by himself are what's best for my family? He's about to welcome a child for the first time, both sides of his family are in the eastern US, is there going to be a bunch of childhood photos of him wearing Flyers gear if he ends up there? there are a multitude of factors here and most of which we will never know of.
Suffice it to say; he is going to be extremely wealthy whether he signs with the Flames or not. Although some althlete's do end up in bankruptcy, I have a hard time seeing that, or anything close to it, being the case with Gaudreau. Just my take on it based on nothing other than my view from 30,000 feet.
If it were me though, I would probably lean towards the Flames. Get the most money guaranteed now, and should the Flames find themselves missing the playoffs is 3-4 years time (or at any point), you can probably find a way to get to the eastern US then.

I would like to welcome Gaudreauvertime Lewis Gross back to CP, haven't seen you since the last time you and Treliving were in hard negotiations. This time, Johnny has earned his free agency, and I will have no ill will toward him if he chooses to move closer to family.
I think Johnny needs to think big picture here. He can move closer to home now. But there is no team close to home that can offer him a competitive salary and at the same time be a Stanley Cup contender. So he must ask himself whether he is willing to give up the chance at a Stanley Cup in order to be closer to home now. Also, no team can offer him a spot on a line with linemates comparable to Lindholm and Tkachuk, so his stats will suffer if he moves on from the Flames. Finally, he needs to ask himself whether he wants to have that legacy of a franchise player who spent his entire career with the team that believed in him and gave him an opportunity to succeed when no other team would. His number would go to the rafters and he would be remembered as one of the all-time great Flames. And he would have 8 years to win the Stanley Cup with those Flames, who while they bowed out to the Oilers and the refs, are much closer to winning it all than most other teams in the league.
One other thing. If Gaudreau does want to cap off his career with a Stanley Cup victory, he should keep this in mind with his salary demands. He can ask for whatever he wants, but if the ask is lower, then the chance of continuing to surround him with champion-calibre teammates is better.
So, Lewis, what is it that Johnny really wants for the next 8 years? Money? More time with family? A chance to win the Cup? A place in franchise history? The Flames have a lot to offer Johnny, above just their ability to pay him a rich salary, and I hope you remind him of that as he is making his decision.

This is Francis hedging his bets. He can either say “I was tight to begin with” or “I was right at the end”.

He's been saying it for at least a couple of weeks now. I think he knows something he can't divulge.
OTOH, are the FAN960 crew agreeing, disagreeing or mute on Francis's take? Because they also know way more things than they can say onair.

Latest from Frank; literally sounds like a deal could be signed by now but Johnny is the one holding it up. Time will tell if he decides his heart to play is still with the Flames or if it’s closer to home… fingers crossed he stays.

Yikes... that doesn't sound good.
Definitely feels like he's testing FA to see what offers are 'legally' out there.
