Yeah. Is it not absolutely nuts to hate people killing babies but to simultaneously also do everything you can to stop people from preventing the conception of babies?

I wonder how long before Republicans make laws that restrict trading partners to nations that follow their idea of religious morality? America First is not good for Canada, just wait until they move in this direction.

This just pushes it down to the States. It makes the divide between rich and poor more and those richer can go to another states and the poor and vulnerable cannot.
Or more bluntly, those that can choose to abort will and those that are at risk won't.

Go back and read FiftyBelow's posts in the COVID/Vaccine threads preaching body autonomy and criticizing the government for "forcing" individuals to make certain decisions about their body. We're living in strange times.

I hope none of these dumb ass Republicans / conservatives have ever killed a fly or stepped on a bug or have gone hunting for game. I'm assuming they haven't, otherwise, they would appear quite hypocritical when deciding which autonomous beings get to live and which get to die.

It takes a special kind of stupid to look at this and say democrats are blameless. The party that’s terrified to govern, the party that would rather fundraise off the idea that abortion rights are in danger, the party that has a majority in two branches of government right now, won’t do anything to actually stop it from happening.
“Vote for us to stop the terrible things” is a great slogan when the reality is “Aw shucks we were gonna do something but it didn’t poll well with college educated white men ages 35-50”
Democrats are going to get absolutely curb stomped in the midterm elections and in 2024. This is just the beginning and if you think “vote harder” is a good idea you may want to look into an everyday helmet for when you leave the house.

This is a step back for the USA as a society. Its sad to see.
On a pure intellectual level, I can understand the arguments the majority judges have advanced, that abortion was never part of the freedoms contemplated at the time. Contrast to gun rights which are expressly in the 2nd Amendment dating back to the 1700s.
Abortion rights were never debated or contemplated when the constitution was written. It wasn't even an issue until the last half century or so.
The problem is the majority justices aren't considering things in a manner like our SCC has done. In Egan v. Canada, in 1995, our SCC considered and applied that sexual orientation is protected in s. 15 of our constitution, effectively "writing it in" on analogous grounds to the rights that are expressly in section 15 when it was brought in in the 80s, at a time orientation rights were not on many peoples' minds. It thus wasn't included, even debated to my knowledge. So in 1995 the SCC fixes the problem and makes Canadian law more fair and equal, which is what s. 15 was always intended to do. (If you want to read further, see: https://scc-csc.lexum.com/scc-csc/sc.../1265/index.do
This is a sad day, but we knew it was coming. It doesn't ban or make abortions illegal, but it does remove abortion rights as obligatory for states to implement. Some states will keep abortion rights, some won't. Its looking like a Red/Blue split. Women will be crossing state lines to get abortions.
Personally, I dislike the very idea of abortion. But I don't think anyone should stand in a women's way of doing what she wants with her body. Sometimes, it even makes sense, I suppose. At a certain point in a pregnancy however, its pretty hard to not cringe thinking about what is being done.

"Not all life is created equal."
Unofficial mantra of the Republican movement whether they know it or not.

What a cruel party the Republicans are. The fact that in many areas, abortions are going to be banned for ectopic pregnancies show this is about cruelty and control, not any sort of moral principles.

What a sad little country. In all of it's problems, they find that it's actually abortions that are the true problem.
Back to 1800's you go. Or here's to hoping the Republican SCOTUS die off some time soon?

It's simple. Pack the court.
The GOP got here by ignoring, skirting, and overturning democratic precedent and the rule of law. And lies, lots of lies.
Pack the court.

If you believe that the baby in the womb is indeed a human being deserving of protection, then of course you're going to see abortion as a problem. About 63,000,000 abortions since Roe v. Wade--the deliberate murder of human beings.

Probable outcome - number of additional mother's who will die during pregnancy because of this will be quite similar to the number of lives increased by dan abortion ban.
