That design is a million times better than the crap HOK and Dialog came up with for our arena.

I'm excited for their team to get a new arena.
...why can't I be excited for the Flames on the arena front? Feels like I'm not allowed to be.

When comparing to the Flames, remember... - They've already had one deal fall apart, so this is already attempt #2.
- Initial concept designs almost never look anything like the final product once the bean counters get involved.

While that will probably be watered down, it is 100x better than any renderings the Flames have ever produced in their 20 year journey towards a new arena. Take away two of the towers, and this is the type of arena I always envisioned. Love the use of glass and what appears to be wood trim. A very classy and elegant design that flows. Very consistent with materials. The more I look at this the more I realize how terrible the Flames concept was. Maybe we dodged a huge bullet by having the arena deal fall through. I only hope that whenever the arena resurfaces they will go back to the drawing board on the design.

We had Calgary Next and then the Superstore, so technically have we've had two proposals fail? Maybe we could bet on the over/under on when the Flames could be playing in a new arena. What would the line be... 8 years?

Yeah, that looks fine. Never understood the complaints about it.
The only complaint I have is that it feels like it'll never get built.

While I hear ya, I do believe a new arena will get built...
Part of the issue is the small area there is to work with, fitting the event centre to the space required cutting certain items. If they had more space to work with, maybe it could have more bells and whistles (like a practice rink, for example)?

3. For the majority of their existence they have played in a suburb with terrible transit connections.

If only they weren't tied to building it on the Stampede grounds.

Well, if you're going to count things like CalgaryNext, Ottawa is probably on idea 4 or 5 at this point.

It is kind of crazy how Calgary has turned into the city of can't do with by far the worst major sports facilities in the country.

Pretty hard to believe our baseball stadium once housed a triple-A team. It's, uh, lacking.

Who gets a new arena first?
(1) Coyotes
(2) Senators
(3) Flames
