Max salaries are assessed annually, not averaged. In 2018-19 McDavid made 15M. I bet Mackinnon tops that, yes. Hell, last year Marner made $16M.
EDIT: again, I bet the top end salary he will get in any given year will be close to max. It's happened many times. His overall AAV - he's older so he may well accept a nosedive at the end. But his AAV I expect to be 13.5. More if he shortens the term to get another deal.

And if it wasn’t for Covid I bet we’d be looking at a max cap of around 100 in the next year or two.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Mackinnon sign for 13+

LeBrun said on Insider Trading that the Canes are getting calls about Martin Necas. He said that they likely wouldn't move him, but they might if they get a good, young D-man in return.

McDavid's half way into his contract so it would not be surprising at all to see MacKinnon's next contract surpass McDavid's current contract numbers.

Will be interesting. Mackinnon is on record saying he'll take less on his next deal, so we'll see what that numbers ends up being.

MacKinnon has mentioned taking a team friendly deal on his next contract before. I expect he's going to stick to that.

If I were MacKinnon, I'd get the Avs to pay me $1 more AAV than McDavid to make me highest paid player in the league, which would probably constitute a discount based on where salaries will go.

Would love Necas here. Would be an ideal fit on the 2nd line.

Players are coached on how to talk to media but for whatever reason, when I watch Mackinnon, he doesn't seem like he cares about being the highest paid or labeled as the best player or whatever. Just my opinion. Mcdavid though, does.

Last year IIRC Karlsson was the highest paid player in the league. Next year it’s Seguin unless someone gets a better deal. And of active players, I think Weber has the most lucrative overall contract.

*highest cap hit
Nate will be under McDavid IMO
I know there are many factors including injuries and points aren't everything but the guy has never had 100 points, can see him asking for 13M or something

He can likely ask for whatever he wants, as Colorado can’t afford to let him go.
I expect he will not be greedy.
Points aren’t everything, as you say and he is every bit as good a player as McDavid.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he came in even less that $12M.

He may not have had a 100 point season, but he's been on a ~110 point pace the last 3 seasons if not for injuries. He had 99 the season prior. The 100 point mark is a pretty weak argument IMO.

Dubois tells the jets he's going to test free agent market in 2024. Sucks for winnipeg but can you blame him?

Always seems like a me-first player. So he's telling the Jets he'll only sign for 2 years, I guess.

Yeah there's just something about this guy that rubs me the wrong way. As said as above is Winnipeg a place where you would want to spend most of your career if given a choice?
