Well, what if Tkachuk moves and you put him with Lindholm and Gaudreau?

Anyway, this year he had slightly more time with Kadri's line than Mackinnon's. With almost identical production.

But sure, take that tone.
It's fair to say he has a lot of injuries but you said he misses 20 in a good year when he did play 56 of 56 in 2021.

I wouldn't pay a kings ransom but this guy is likely the best dman available IMO

He wouldn't put up 100 points like Tkachuk. Like I said before he's a very solid player but I'm curious to see what he fetches in free agency as I just don't see him repeating these numbers again.

No, but he also won't cost $9-10M like Tkachuk. He'd be half as much at most.
That gets you some extra room for Johnny, Mangiapane and other players.

I see him maybe a PPG guy with the right mates, and a .75 PPG guy on his own. Plus he's faster and better defensively than Tkachuk.

I guess what I'm saying is if things are going south with Matthew, he'd be a decent guy to look at.

And in theory you could trade Tkachuk for other good players/assests

that being said GL getting him here at a decent price when he can go anywhere

There are not as many teams in the market for particular players as this board assumes. Cap space, need, team direction narrow it considerably.

Yes, but not from "anywhere" like you said. Treliving hangs in with a lot of competitors when he wants a player. See Markstrom.

Nichushkin's ice time jumped almost 5 minutes per game more than his previous career high this season. It's not like his production skyrocketed despite similar ice time.

He's always been insanely dominant defensively. Now it seems the offense has jumped up there too with increased opportunity.

Guy is an absolute stud.

So funny to look at Nichushkin's progress. I remember before that draft Feaster was doing one of those STH events where he more or less said hell no to drafting Nichushkin (fear of player not wanting to come over).

Dallas certainly screwed up his development, and what a great signing by Joe Sakic.

I don’t either, but it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be a prime target.

He’s exactly what they need, and all he’d cost is money.

Instead of Malkin, trade a 7th rounder for Crosby @ 50% retained. Throw in Lucic if you have to to get it done

I think it’s a safe bet that if the COVID season had been a full one, Chychrun wouldn’t have played 82 - it’s something he’s never done.

He’s 24 and he has chronic knee issues. Arizona wants to move him because they of all teams can’t pay a guy big money who isn’t available for 10-20% of the season year after year.

It’s not even that I’m opposed to bringing him in, but I just can’t stand the thought of spending what limited assets we do have on more defensemen before we address the dire need at centre.

Everything else takes a back seat, because it’s an awfully tall order to get out Round 2 without another C who’s at least as good as Lindholm.

It's funny - this board was all over going after Burakovsky a couple years back. I think Nichushkin's way better.

I think he is too. Like all UFA's, there is much risk involved, but he's a very good player and likely to remain so.

I expect Colorado will do everything they can to retain him.

Nichushkin just turned 27 in March, which makes it a lot less scary to give him term...Friedman mentioned that he is priority #2 (after MacKinnon extension) - I wonder if they could lock him down for like 8x4M.

COL's cap is actually in great shape; the biggest crunch will be next summer when NM's extension kicks in + modest raises to Byram + Newhook. But Erik Johnson's 6M comes off the books then, too.

I wonder what COL does in net next year? Francouz is a nice platoon option - I wonder if they'd take a shot with Blackwood? They could also do a pretty big 1 year deal for MAF

Dude just scored 25 goals, is great defensively and is having a hell of a playoffs - you think he would sign for less than what we gave Troy Brouwer half a decade ago?

Not a shot. $6M+ easily.

Mackinnon's gonna be paaaaaaaaiiiiiiid. Dude has been the biggest bargain in the NHL outtside of ELCs. He's gonna want to make up some ground. If he wins a cup for them I expect a max contract.

You think he is going to get 16.5 million a season? 4 million more then McDavid (25% more)
