Stats wise, Francis had a bad year. Not a surprise they move on. He was not a good prospect to begin with.
I would be more worry about Zary and Stromgren who also didn’t have good stats compared to previous years. And we expect them to succeed.

Zary will be just fine. Stromgren .... I dunno.

Probably didn't sign him because his name is Francis. Just a bit too close in name to Eric Francis which is already too much Francis for one organization

If I am not mistaken, he was a late cut (this season or last) in camp...leading me to think that he had a future here. He seemed to be from the Mangiapane school of undersized, but plays big.

I guess we will see, but I would have thrown him a contract ahead of the 25 yr-old AHL vet that they will sign in his place.

He also played 4 games with Stockton this year. I guess they didn’t like what they saw.

He's not even the best undersized, 20-year-old, unsigned forward on his QMJHL team. The Flames could go out and sign his teammate Josh Lawrence if they wanted to. Frankly these types of players are a dime a dozen.

I'm pleased with the signings of Ilya Nikolaev and Rory Kerins -- both of whom should add some offence to an already strong Heat team.

I hope some of the younger defensemen can step up, and are perhaps augmented with some free agent reclamation projects as that's addressing a bigger organizational need, IMO.

Good. His name threw me off too much. Like a cross of Ryan Leslie and Eric Francis.

From sitting directly in front of him at the prospect camps at WinSport, I can say that Conroy was a HUGE fan of the Austin Carroll pick.

Ryan Francis scores the winner (and adds another) as the Sea Dogs kick off the Memorial Cup!

Also: Kuznetsov scored... so there's that too.

I was telling my dad and brother a couple days ago that he would have a great memorial cup. Still wondering why the announcement didn’t come at the end of his season..

So it gives teams a chance to scout him?

I mean why didn’t the Flames wait until his season was over..makes little sense, unless Francis said he didn’t want to sign here.

Because they had to sign him by June 1?

I'm seeing 1g, 2a.... Did they give the second goal to someone else?

Ah, thank you, I forgot that and was assuming it would be the same day as free agency.

Mods, can we rename this thread to: 'The Legend of Ryan Francis'?

I maintain that the Flames should have signed Ryan Francis.

There are plenty of guys like this

Even Rory Kerins is a long shot….probably same with Zary from what he has shown this year

The fact Zary has had the season he's had at his age shows he probably way further out of the picture than even a guy like Kerins will ultimately be.
