The Leafs if the move Nylander will want to save cap and trade for futures.

Not a good match with Calgary.

Smith had a better save % this season playing behind the Oilers...I would not be the least bit worried if they blew 5M plus on Bob

Won't every second year be the problem?

There are a number of great players who haven't won a Stanley Cup, especially in the modern era. There are a bunch of players who win one as well when they are past their prime and are on a team as a shell of their former self. In fact of players who started playing since 1990 (as an arbitrary cut off for when expansion started) I think that if you made up a team of the best Stanley Cup champions vs the best non Stanley Cup Champions, the teams would be relatively even.

This is only going to become more common as the league now has 32 teams.

I usually give credit to those who win cups, but I don't take anything away from players who don't win cups. But we can always evaluate players based on their general effectiveness in the playoffs.

To me, the biggest parts of a "legacy" are the positive impacts on the community and the memories instilled within our thoughts.
A guy like Iginla is probably an all-time great in these regards. Even Gio was great.

Any speculation on where DeBrincat goes (if they trade him)?

Could be a big domino to fall this summer...

Yes, because a non-physical, offensive winger is exactly what the Flames need to round out their roster

This is exactly what you would expect a player to say when those trade rumours include Edmonton.

So far there are 3 teams that have made it no secret to want to make a big splash:

New Jersey
Philadelphia
Vancouver

That's what his M-NTC is for.

It is hard to imagine a trade coming to fruition - any team who needs Gibson probably isn't good enough for Gibson to want to go to.

NJD is one place I could see - Blackwood for Gibson could work for both sides, and it seems like they've done a fair number of trades in the past. NJD seems a year or two closer to competing, while Blackwood needs a fresh start but is a lot younger.

Canucks have $9 mill in space and only have 9 forwards under contract. They also need to sign Brock Boeser, which will be $6m+. Not sure how they make a big UFA splash?

Yup big splash would mean having to move out one of Miller or Boeser, and that point anyone coming is is going to be equal or less.

No way they can get rid of Myers or OEL

They will trade Miller and Boeser

Apparently the dressing room is toxic

Moving one or two of Boeser, Miller, or Garland would do it. I think Boeser is as good as gone, Garland likely gets dealt (about 60/40 chance) and Miller will likely depend on whether or not they get overpayment for him.

I guess but I'm not sure if that makes the 10th place team any better
