Yeah the mint has this one: https://www.mint.ca/store/coins/pure...22-prod3810019
$1000 but it's 7.8g of gold (0.275oz), which is only about $660 worth of gold.. though of course you aren't going go get spot price in a coin.
TD does have some on their website I found: https://preciousmetals.td.com/shop/en/tdmetals/golds
$660 to $727 for a 0.25oz coin, which is much better.
Though I guess with the coin from the mint there's the collectable value as well as the gold.
Maybe I'll call TD tomorrow to see if they have any in Calgary.

$670 for a 1/4oz Maple Leaf gold coin, I'll definitely give them a call.

There's a coin dealer in Crossroads Market. I think the owner is the general manager of Albern coins as well. It's another option if you're having trouble finding one. That's where I buy silver maple leaves, cause the parking at Albern is ####.

Are you specifically looking for a gold coin or would a small bar work?

Online dealers are a good option. Silvergoldbull based out of Calgary is one of the largest dealers in Canada. They have great service and will even price match if you find it cheaper somewhere else. CanadianPMX is another option. They have some of the best prices, but less selection and slower delivery.
The lowest premiums are typically on 1oz maples, going higher as you go down in size to 1/2 or 1/4.

I checked with Albern and they don't carry the 1/4oz coins, but have the 1/2oz ones in their store. So I'll have to likely order online to get a 1/4oz one if that's what we want.

Interesting week on the market so far...
I'm curious to know how other people are handling all of these bearish shifts in the market.
For my part, I've been selling stocks that don't have a lot of obvious near-term upside, and converting those funds into dividend paying stocks. Lots of attractive dividend yields out there at the moment. Going to buy in stages though, as who knows where/when this slide is going to bottom out.

I'm holding all my positions and slowly moving a portion of my monthly savings into three spots cash, crypto, and TSFA. In my TSFA, I'm focusing on the heaviest hit regular ETFs, no crazy leveraged ETFs, ARKF is my next target.

No way I'd be investing in an actively managed Cathie Wood fund no matter how low it goes. Basically every decision she has made over the last year has been awful (e.g. buying the "dip" in Peloton to load up at over $100/share only to see it drop to $10 within 9 months). Not to mention her constantly invoking her belief in God to guide her investments.
Sadly, my best performing investment over the last 6 months has been SARK (inverse ARKK). I didn't buy very much, but I'm up about 90% right now.

I personally just have banks. Specifically, TD, BNS, BMO. Having said that, I'm staying the course, as tech and stuff should continue moving downward with each interest rate increase as these are expected to be large jumps ahead. I suspect this will continue down this road until September. Beyond that who knows? While I'm not an economist, are things that bad where there is a greater than 10% chance of BOC rates creeping beyond 5%? I don't think so, so it does seem like more fear because of the need to get higher rates. But getting substantially higher I don't think is in the cards, this year at least.

Lots of stonks on sale.
I've been strictly buying commodities / Canadian O&G and industrials. Along with allocating portfolio weight to safer plays like Berkshire.
I still think we're at the beginning of a multi-year market cycle and I don't think tech has bottomed.

Just buying good companies when they become cheap, and preparing to hold long term. Lots more opportunities recently, hopefully it continues.

I’ve been watching a bunch of retirement things recently on YouTube and some videos with her have popped up. I think the retirement vids caused a couple of O’Leary’s top pop up which resulted in some of Wood’s. The couple I watched don’t really say much that makes sense. She goes on about something, sprinkles in terms I don’t recognize matter of factly, and at the end I don’t know what she’s really said. Her thesis or point is…something. There was one which she laid out a mostly clear reason for investing in batteries. O’Leary I find funny, he seems to want to be the market messiah now. Some of his videos are hilarious, he’s recording his own angle during an interview. The interview shows him in a suit and tie, his own angle shows below the suit he’s got a sarong and flip flops on. He’s a wild man with crypto.

Think there is enough blood on the streets to start moving back in? I’m thinking of adding small increments on companies with proven track records for long term holds. Anyone else taking this approach.
Of course, it would have been a lot better if I saw the top.

That's stocks though...2020 ARKK had a 156% return

This is a great approach and is what we are doing for our clients (and what we always do for our clients).
No one knows when the bottom is, until it is in the rearview mirror. Dollar cost averaging is a sure way to win. If you start now, and it goes lower, fine, you're buying more. If it doesn't go lower, you started at the bottom. Regardless, at some point things will recover, and when they do, every purchase that you have made from now until then will have been a good one.
Also - and this is much more important than most people give it credit for - it takes all the stress out of it.

He did use the word 'investing' though. As opposed to speculating.
