Too bad for him. This was funny though,

Delaet: “I don't want to have like a full-time job where I'm working 20 or 30 weeks a year and travelling"

...uh, that's not a full time job. That would be a dream for a normal guy.

No kidding. He's what, forty and the idea of working 20 or 30 weeks a year is preposterous to him.

I guess golf has been good to him.

I'm enjoying this LIV golf coverage - I like the shotgun format.

I think that he's referring to the time away from the family and not the actual "work" aspect of it. If you have kids, getting away here and there is one thing, but being away for half a year from the family for work is something different.

I flipped it on for a second, but don't really see anything the least bit compelling. The leaderboard is far less interesting than any PGA or DP event. What is enjoyable about it?

The course they are playing is about the length of a mid-level Junior boys event, and still their scores of any of the named players are pretty mediocre.

I think the PGA is losing the narrative on this. The right instinctively has pounced on this as all cancel culture and now it's turning into a right vs left issue. These guys taking money from the Saudi's is only part of the issue and yeah it's pretty easy to reply about all the Chinese money and products that are part of golf.

There was a comparison about Saudi's buying a premiere league team earlier. But that's missing the point, this would be like the Saudi's offering 100s of millions to star players to quit competitive soccer and play exhibition matches for the royal family. As hockey fans, I'm sure we'd all be livid if an exhibition league offered Johnny/McDavid/MacKinnon 100s of millions to quit the NHL and play exhibition games for some rich guys, no matter how they got their money.

They haven't got the A stars yet, and if this is basically all who go, then it will probably die off quietly. If it gains momentum and the PGA loses more players, then it is really going to ruin golf for golf fans. Most golf fans want to watch the best play the best. I have zero interest in watching my favorite golfers play meaningless rounds of golf.

So what's the consensus after the first LIV tournament? The actual play and results seems barely discernible in the sports world to me, and this was their big weekend as they had the ears and potential eyes of millions as the excitement and controversy of late additions took over headlines.

Schwartzel won $4.75M.

That's going to get more players to go.

Someone is going to win $4M+ at the next tournament.

Even more players will go.

The shotgun format is a great idea, especially when it comes to TV. Makes the tournament a better fit for TV slots.

^^^^^

Yeah, they will need way more quality players to go over for this to register in the sports world at all. So far the only thing that registers is the controversy itself and the player names going over.

It registered enough for CBS to spend a chunk of time talking about it to start off their broadcast.

Good for Schwartzel. I have no zero interest in watching a bunch of golfers line their pockets in an exhibition in support of the Saudi’s sportswashing.

Meanwhile Rory tied for the lead of the Canadian Open.

Yeah, I tried to watch some extended highlights but that's exactly it. It's not best on best, it's exhibition.

But yeah, I'm so pumped for tomorrow. 3 huge stars at the top and Scheffler missed a bunch of putts and could easily come roaring out tomorrow. That would be excellent for the Canadian Open to have four stars in contention when a bunch of chumps run by human rights abusers used our country's open to launch their play toy and steal the spotlight.

Man, they should just move the Canadian Open to this course permanently. Huge, rowdy crowds on an historic, beautiful course gives it that major feel. The announcers were really loving it at times.

My favourite was the two huge guys being held up by other guys "those guys holding them up are the real heroes". Also loved the Ole, Ole, chant replaced with Rory. Everyone loves him there and that's awesome.

No way he skips this tournament going forward. Hope he wins tomorrow.

Canadian Open has 5 of the world's top 10. The LIV thing has none.

These guys who took the 9 figure paydays to leave... do they even have any motivation to work on their game and play well? The meritocracy of tour golf is not a part of the LIV tour and from the looks of their scores, the big names didn't seem to be too worried about preparing.

Shotgun starts are not even feasible for a real full field event. It's also pretty bush league for the final round. I want to see the contenders play the course in the order it was meant to be played.

How is the sportswashing supposed to work anyway? From what I’ve seen, it’s only brought a negative spotlight on the Saudis. Outside of the golfers getting rich, no one wants this league, so it’s hard to see how the tournaments themselves are helping the Saudi’s image.

Sounds like a good question for the Shark.

"The evolution of the game has arrived," Norman said. "Golf was always going to be a force of good out of all this."

What a philanthropist.

Coverage for the final round of the Canadian Open was probably available online somewhere but it really would have been nice if they could provide more than 3 hours of TV coverage today especially because it looks like there has been some great action on the course today.

Golf Channel had their usual couple of hours of coverage before it switched to CBS
