He sent it foul, but in that case there was actually a fielder over there at short so he actually had a LOT less margin for success. The first at bat, there was no one even at 2nd base in the infield. He had a mile to work with.

so they've wasted Kirk hitting for Tapia (with a man on and two outs) and now bring in Zimmer? I guess it was Kirk's day off anyways but they could have found a better situation later for him.

I think it was a situation where it was, "look, here's a chance to use him, maybe a better chance will come later, but we don't know that for sure so let's take it while we have it".
That ball hit down the third base line is just a perfect summary of this game. It just goes in the perfect spot, whereas none of the Jays' contact has gone anywhere useful with men on. A K here would be nice.
EDIT: Or hey, that works even better!

That's the break the Jays needed, lined DP.

... Are they really going to follow a multi-HR, 10-1 beatdown with getting shut out the next day?
Seriously?

It's been kind of been the Blue Jays trend the last couple years. There was a game last year where the Jays beat the Red Sox like 19-0 only to lose 2-1 the next day.

If only there was room for some subtlety, and the possibility that maybe there is room for different types of players on a team.
But I'm sure you're right and everything has to be black and white, this or that.

Enoch what you are missing is that Tapia isn’t good at ANYTHING
His BA sucks . He has no power . He doesn’t walk . He isn’t good a D. And his baserunning is average with average + speed
I would LOVE for the Jays to have a small ball player who has a .370 OBP, played stellar D, and could steal at 85% with 90 percentile speed
That is the type of small ball player you need to make up for no power
Tapia is none of those things .

I'm not missing anything. I have never claimed that Tapia is awesome. I am just rebutting your ridiculous statements of absolution.

It all started with you rebutting my statement that Tapia is one of the worst players
You are yet to provide anything other then your personal opinion that he isn’t
I will leave it at that because I enjoy your contributions to this thread - but it’s fine to admit he stinks while still thinking a small ball
Player would help this team and debating that . He just isn’t that player

Man, games like this one are tough, because I want to say "you have to beat these mediocre teams when you're starting Gausman given how close the AL East is", but on the other hand... what did they really do wrong?

They it a lot of balls hard and got almost nothing for it. And the pitching was solid too. Just one of those games.

Gausman has a 2.67 era and is 5-5. Can't seem to get the run support.

Hmm, I wonder if the Jays having their best and hottest hitter in the line up from the start might have changed their fortunes in a game where just one key hit might have made the difference?

So at this rate the Jays will play Rays in the wildcard game(hopefully at home) then if they win that they'd get the Yankees.
