Hopefully Gaus comes back with a strong start next time, because otherwise only having Manoah to count on is......scary af

Other than Berrios being completely jekyll and hyde , everybody is pretty much where I expected them with Manoah and Gausman making up for Berrios.

I think everybody k ew there were lots of question marks coming into the season. Team really needs another strong arm that can start. And probably another good reliever or two.

The rotation is a mess?

Starter fWAR - 2nd in the AL
Starter ERA - 5th in the AL
Starter FIP - 2nd in the AL
Starter xFIP - 3rd in the AL

Doesn't look like a mess to me.

Disappointing that Kikuchi had a bad last couple of starts, but he's still been an OK 5th starter so far that shows flashes of being dominant.

All good pitchers have bad starts now and then. On the whole, they've been the saving grace of the season so far while the offense has found their timing.

The only real bummer is Ryu's injury issues, because he can be a highly effective starter when healthy. Pearson's health is also a bit concerning because he could have been the 6th starter this year. At this point he'll probably only be counted on as a reliever when he comes back.

Yep.

Sounds like they are grooming Pearson to be a multi inning guy so he can basically take Stripling's role in the BP while he covers for Ryu. Speaking of which, Pearson pitched for the Bisons for the 2nd time yesterday and had a solid outing.

Jays also supposedly had a scout at Trevor Rosenthal's showcase. Boy would it be nice to add a high leverage, swing and miss reliever like that provided he's still good.

The Jays also have a lot of swing and miss type pitchers coming up through the system that might make their way onto the MLB roster by seasons end. Some of them are starters, but will likely be on inning limits, so very likely they get moved to relief roles later on and then quite possibly brought to the Jays at some point.

Guys like Zulueta, Tiedemann, Frasso for example.

There is a guy who was just promoted to AA who is rocking an 18.00 K/9 as well, Jimmy Burnette. He's a pure reliever and is 23 years old, I could see him making the jump if he continues to perform. Has to lower the BB/9 though.

We are also probably not far away from seeing the MLB debut of Adrian Hernandez who has continued to be lights out since his AAA promotion.

As for the starters, hopefully Berrios and Kikuchi can start to find more consistency, but so far Manoah, Gausman and Stripling have been very, very good.

Other then Tiedemann I don't see a lot of potential starters in the system. Zulueta should be a pretty potent weapon out of the pen though.

Yep could certainly be the case down the road.

They're being used as starters for now though, so time will tell.

Zulueta has a strong 4 pitch mix from what I've read, and brings the high 90's heat as well. Definite starter potential if he's durable enough.

Thing is... he's 24, in Hi-A ball, and has pitched 25 total innings over the last three years.

Starter potential for sure... he's got the stuff for it... but it'll probably take a couple of more years to build up his innings to even modern MLB standards and who knows what will happen to his elbow in the meantime. Meanwhile he could be an asset for the pen in relatively short order. He could be an weapon and I'd hate to see him use up all the big league quality bullets he has in the minors only to end up breaking before he can use them for MLB.

100% agree

Pretty much guaranteed he's on an innings limit and IMO he will be moved up quickly and end up in the Jays pen by seasons end unless he starts getting shelled somewhere on the way up or gets hurt.

Frasso is another one too. 23 years old in A ball. 26 Ks in 13.2 IP against 4 walks, and apparently hits triple digits. Could move fast if he stays healthy.

That is just awesome. Never expected that at all.

And superb defense at 2B

Love it when a low profile prospect comes out of nowhere and becomes a productive MLB starter.
